Drake And Boi-1da Just Played A Part In Improving Internet Connectivity For Thousands Of Canadians

Drake apparently does it all, as he’s now played a part in providing better Internet to his fellow Canadians. According to HipHopDx, in July 2019, Drake requested for the mayor of Pickering — a city in Ontario, Canada — to create “stronger wifi towers” for award-winning producer Boi-1da, who appeared to be having trouble sending over beats. “Can the mayor of Pickering set up some stronger wifi towers so @boi1da can be able to send me all his newest beats?? Trying to cook up. Thanks,” Drake asked via Instagram. And to no surprise, they delivered. Pickering previously issued a response to the rapper sharing plans to expand and strengthen the broadband network in the city. Now, it appears the city has kept its promise to fix internet connectivity issues for its hamlets and rural areas. “Drake’s call for better Internet in Pickering is answered! Remember when Drake called on the “Mayor of Pickering” to fix Internet connectivity issues where his regular producer, Boi1da, lives and...

According to a press release, this marks the agency and country’s largest effort to close the homework gap and connect American students to the tools they need to support their education. “Even before the coronavirus pandemic upended so much of day-to-day life, seven in ten teachers were assigning homework that required access to the internet,” FCC Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel shared in a press statement. “But data...

Real Estate Developer Booker Washington Is Set To Open A Black-Owned Micro Community With A Coffee Shop And Tech Lab

Booker Washington is making homeownership more accessible for urban communities. He is the founder of Techie Homes, a real estate company that designs “smart micro-communities” in Atlanta, GA, priced below current market rates, according to its company website. “Accessible homeownership is an issue in Atlanta,” he told Business Insider. “Our goal is to provide homes at a price point where mortgages are equal to or less than the cost of renting a one-bedroom apartment.” While Washington subscribes to accessible homeownership, he makes it clear he does not want to label Techie Homes’ efforts as an affordable housing project. “We change the way we view environments, and if we change the way we view environments, we’ll change the actual person and how they grow,” Washington explained in a video clip . “That’s the reason why I don’t adopt to affordable housing projects, because if you put people of all the same incomes in the same place, they will only see what that other person’s low...

Black Culture, Green Thumb: 7 Black Environmental Changemakers Using Their Platform To Promote Sustainability

1970 was pivotal in America’s relationship with sustainability and earth preservation. Earth Day was created on April 22, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was established on Dec. 2, 1970. Since this time, pervasive movements have centered around how people can intentionally preserve the planet by reducing trash, reusing materials, and recycling products to be repurposed. But if you were to talk to many members of the Black community, these practices have been a staple in Black households for decades. While sustainability is making waves through the popular halls of society, the concept is not new for those deeply associated with Black culture. From the reuse of everyday items to the current display of being plant parents, Black people from across the diaspora have been tapping into innovative and natural ways to keep the world “green” before it was ever an official thing. Plant enthusiast and Memphis, TN, resident Eso Tolson reflected on many green moments he...

Relationships Are Currency: An In-depth Look At T. Rowe Price’s Commitment To Equity

There are a few things Black people do not play about: faith, family, food and finances. Money is the currency that allows one to make transactions, and it’s a means for wealth. The O’Jays told Grandma and Auntie that money can be a real problem if not used properly, while Cardi B is encouraging the new generation to make sure they go after the bag. Wherever you fall on the spectrum of collecting coins, money isn’t the only means to success and wealth. Time is currency. Education is currency. But what is one of the other most notable means for wealth? Relationships. History has proven that the power of collaboration can take any concept from mere idea to paradigm-shifting movement. T. Rowe Price is replicating this by leveraging the power of connectivity to impact community. T. Rowe Price is showing up for Baltimore in a big way with its long-standing relationship with Baltimore Corps .
