Voiceover artist L. Michelle McCray’s introduction into the arts began at five-years-old after singing “When You Wish Upon a Star” in a Disney play. Her first official gig, which was in radio, sparked her adolescent years. Tapping into her passion early on set the tone for her future to come. “I had been playing little pranks, imitating, and my mother would read me stories. And, I was so in love with what my mother did that I started imitating her, and then it turned into me imitating people in the news and practicing all these inflections, sounds, and tones,” L. Michelle told AfroTech. L. Michelle’s radio background and theatre, music, and media production pivoted her career as an artist, particularly in voice acting. Now, with over 25 years in the game under her belt, L. Michelle rightfully crowned herself as the “voice acting master.” In 2020, her journey as an artist took a slight halt due to the arrival of COVID-19. The pandemic hit after she moved to Boston to attend Berklee...
Facebook is willing to go to great lengths to cancel out the competition! As previously reported by AfroTech, the social media company is now operating under the name Meta, and has announced that it will pay artists and creators as much as $50,000 each time they use its new Clubhouse-like feature, Insider reports. Per two people “with direct knowledge of the outreach,” production companies that are working with Facebook have offered musicians and social media influencers close to tens of thousands of dollars in Facebook Live Audio Room deals. Creators are required to host four to six sessions for at least 30 minutes in duration for the Facebook offering of $10,000 and $50,000 per live session. Courtesy of Facebook This isn’t Facebook’s first rodeo at attempting to lure in creators through programs that are similar to rival social media platforms. Currently, for the month of November, Instagram is offering creators a maximum bonus of $35,000 if their Reels are able to reach 58...

But we’ve...
Earlier this year, Spotify announced plans to host live audio conversations on its digital platform. Well that day is finally here, so say hello to the Spotify Greenroom app. After acquiring Black-led app Betty Labs — also the creators of sports-focused audio app Locker Room — Spotify shared its grand plan that included creating the “future formats of audio.” Today, the streaming giant is marking its official move into the digital audio future by introducing what could become a Clubhouse rival. According to TechCrunch, the Spotify Greenroom app itself is based on Locker Room’s existing code, so current users of the latter platform will soon see their app update to reflect the newly-rebranded and redesigned Greenroom experience. For the time being, Spotify tells TechCrunch that the new app is a part of its plan to “leverage Spotify’s personalization technology to...
Twitter is continuing to prove it’s the king of all social media with this latest Silicon Valley rumor. The so-called “bird app” is rumored to be in talks with the up-and-coming audio app, Clubhouse, for acquisition. If the acquisition is successful, the deal will be worth $4 billion. Bloomberg News was the first to report on the rumored acquisition, and sources close to the situation confirmed the initial talks to TechCrunch. However, other sources suggest that there might be a bigger play at stake for Clubhouse. You see, a few days ago, Clubhouse announced that they were seeking a new round of funding at a valuation of $4 billion. There’s a good chance that these latest Silicon Valley rumors surrounding Twitter’s alleged acquisition of the app are merely the San Francisco-based company’s way of tantalizing additional investors. And this theory is bolstered by TechCrunch’s report that Twitter “folded” in the initial acquisition conversations. Then there’s the issue of Twitter...
