Megan Thee Stallion continues to show the world the importance of authentic relationships. The Houston native broke down how her love for one snack led to the deal she inked with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation management services.

During her appearance at the annual Cannes Lions Festival on Thursday (June 23), the “Hot Girl Summer” emcee shared how her love for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos was the connecting link to the Hip-Hop billionaire.

Complex reports that Megan was originally scheduled to meet with imprint executives but was totally shocked when Jay-Z and her favorite snack joined the meeting.

The Hot Cheetos Connection

“I thought I was coming to meet the leader and it was just going to be Roc Nation staff like showing me around,” said the “Captain Hook” lyricist during her time as a guest on the “If You’re Not First, You’re Last” panel. “And then Jay-Z walks in the room, and I’m like, ‘I didn’t know Jay-Z was coming to my meeting!’ But he comes in the room and he has like six platters of Hot Cheetos and he’s like, ‘I heard you like Hot Cheetos!’ And I was sold.”

Authenticity Is Key

As previously reported by AfroTech, the 27-year-old entertainer has even trademarked the “Hot Girl Summer” phrase that she’s made popular throughout her rise to fame. Earlier this year, she appeared in her first commercial, which was right on brand and showcased her love for the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos during Frito-Lay’s Super Bowl ad spot. She explained how the move was true to who she really is.

“When I go to a photo shoot or a video shoot I have to have Hot Cheetos,” she explained. “I always need to really genuinely love it because I need to be authentic. I need to be Megan because if I can’t be Megan, who am I?”
