If a theme song was needed for what’s happening with the popular music platform, Verzuz, then cue Dr. Dre’s “Next Episode.” In a recent development from Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, all is not copasetic with the folks at Triller. The musical duo has sued the social media app for breach of contract to the tune of $28 million.
Over the years, TikTok has received a lot of flack from Black creators for not receiving the same opportunities as their white counterparts. In light of the situation, the social media giant’s competitors swooped in to offer them more — one of them being Triller. But according to The Washington Post, there are allegations that the app has not followed through on its promises. Triller made its name recruiting talent with lavish perks and content houses in the Hollywood Hills. Now, dozens of influencers are struggling to get paid. ‘We were made to look like fools,’ one creator said. https://t.co/we5A6zuCOp — Taylor Lorenz (@TaylorLorenz) August 3, 2022
Timbaland and Swizz Beatz stepped up to the plate during the pandemic to add some joy through the concept of Verzuz. After much success and some questionable head-to-head musical battles, Triller acquired Verzuz from the two musical icons. Oh, what a tale of American economics. Many culturalists speculated that the acquisition would water down the impact of Verzuz. Others saw Triller’s money move as an attempt to stay relevant, specifically against its ever-popular competitor — Tik Tok. Whether any of those speculations are true, Triller is in the news again. This time, the short video app filed official paperwork with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission to take the company public.
Former president and COO of Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment, Steve Pamon, has secured a new position. According to a press release, Verzuz and Triller have appointed Pamon as the President of Verzuz. Under the new title, the executive will oversee the operations of global business including go-to-market and production. In addition, Pamon will manage logistical operations for Verzuz such as contracts, sponsors, venues, programming, live events, and partnerships. “Steve is the proverbial triple threat. His exceptional track record and reputation across Parkwood Entertainment, the NFL, and HBO, delivering global entertainment innovation, and his devotion to respect and lift culture makes his stewardship of the Verzuz brand the perfect match,” Triller CEO Mahi de Silva said in a press statement. “Verzuz is a cultural phenomenon and Steve’s leadership is a perfect complement to Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, who continue to curate the iconic Verzuz events. Steve will accelerate the Verzuz...
Verzuz has held it down for the culture since its debut in 2020. Created by legendary record producers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland , Verzuz has continued to soar in popularity, and at one point, it even amassed over 136.5 million views for the music showdown battle between Brandy and Monica. Now Verzuz is leveling up on the financial side. Verzuz via Triller has plans to become a publicly-traded company on the stock market. Deadline reports, the deal will be made possible due to a reverse merger with SeaChange. Once the deal is finalized, “TrillerVerz” will become the new face and will be valued at an impressive $5 billion. TrillerVerz will trade under the ticker symbol ILLR on the Nasdaq. The merge will accomplish a shared goal to become “a leading AI-powered social media platform for content, creators & commerce,” and to “create a leading voice on the Web3.0 movement and embrace the power of decentralized systems to enable greater participation in the multi-hundred billion dollar...

Things aren’t always as they seem! We’re shocked, but not surprised to hear that the Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul matchup wasn’t “real.” Floyd Mayweather, Jr. was caught on tape sharing that he walked away with $100 million for what he called a “fake fight” in his exhibition match against famous YouTuber Logan Paul earlier this month. According to Fox News, Mayweather’s comments were picked up in microphones set up for a press conference Saturday night following Gervonta Davis’ 11-round knockout of Mario Barrios in Atlanta. “I’m the only person you know that can do a fake fight and get a 100 M’s (millions),” said Mayweather as he walked off of the stage. “I could do legalized sparring and get 100 M’s.” Floyd Mayweather boasting about making $100million for his exhibition with Logan Paul after Gervonta Davis' win… [📽️ @ShowtimeBoxing ] pic.twitter.com/nehjApdnUL — Michael Benson (@MichaelBensonn) June 27, 2021 Mayweather has served as a mentor to Davis and was spotted at Saturday’s...
Video network app Triller is coming for Mike Tyson’s coins! According to ClutchPoints, after the former heavyweight refused to work with the app for his next exhibition fight, the streaming platform may be seeing him in court. When Tyson went up against Roy Jones, Jr., millions of dollars were allegedly spent on the former heavyweight, according to Triller CEO, Ryan Kavanaugh, who sent a letter detailing the spend. The CEO also claimed that the company had rights to a third fight against Evander Holyfield. “Rather than drop the price or renegotiate the deal, we agreed to keep the economics the same with the understanding that the Holyfield fight would be the next fight, and we pre-agreed to the terms,” wrote Kavanaugh. “No one else but Triller was willing to take $25 million dollars of risk on the initial fight, especially in the middle of Covid. We did. Every penny paid in full and no one has ever claimed we did not every penny in full.” Triller’s @RyanKavanaugh responds to Mike...
Triller is on a mission to add more sports content to its video network platform — starting with rapper Ice Cube and his Big3 basketball league. According to CNBC, Cube inked an agreement for a joint venture with the social media company in which Triller will host his league’s first all-star game, its draft, and also feature 30 hours of live games from its 2021 season. Though specifics around the deal have not been made available, the outlet reports that both Big3 and Triller will share advertising revenue earned from the upcoming events, arena signage, and cross-promote their brands together. “There’s nothing as fun and fast in sports as Big3 basketball, and once you watch one game, you’ll be hooked,” Triller co-owner Ryan Kavanaugh shared in a statement. “We are excited to partner with Ice Cube and the Big3 organization to bring this exciting and growing sport to Triller audiences around the world.” Ice Cube basked in the announcement of his Triller deal tweeting, “Big3 signs deal...
Before Verzuz made its surprising announcement to join forces with video network app Triller, Apple attempted to make Swizz Beatz and Timbaland an offer to purchase the company. According to a report from Bloomberg, people with knowledge of the deal — who asked not to be identified due to private discussions — shared that the tech giant initially put their bid in but their offer was much lower than what Triller ended up paying Verzuz. Neither of the Verzuz co-founders or a spokesman from Apple has commented on this news as of yet. Last July, a deal was made between Apple and Verzuz in which the spontaneous music platform was able to live-stream its events through Apple Music and Beats 1 simultaneously with its Instagram page. However, that streaming deal came to an end once Triller entered the picture. REVOLT reports that while many people were shocked to hear that Verzuz had sold its platform — including “Power” actor Michael Rainey Jr. who accused the co-founders of being...
