Looking to be the official DJ of the biggest live music phenomenon in the industry? Well look no further, Triller and Verzuz are offering an opportunity of a lifetime.

Complex reports that both streaming platforms have commenced a global search for their first resident DJ to help warm up crowds for all Triller-hosted events — including Verzuz, Triller Live, Triller Fight Club, FITE and more. The DJ competition is a one-of-a-kind career opportunity that comes with a $1 million annual salary that’s up for grabs for both experienced and “aspiring DJs from around the world.”

“We’re excited to help find Triller’s new Resident DJ, which will be a DJ gig like no other,” Verzuz co-founders Timbaland and Swizz Beatz said in a statement. “The Verzuz audience knows what’s up, so when the voting begins you can be sure the winning DJ will be someone who has all the right stuff. We can’t wait to discover the next superstar behind the decks.”

Triller executive chairman Bobby Sarnevesht also adds that “this is a brand new, once-in-a-lifetime position that will represent Triller across everything we do, from our live events to brand partnerships and everything in between.”

“We’re looking for a performer at heart, someone with a big personality, incredible personal flair, and technical skills to match; someone who not only has his, her or their finger on the pulse of music and culture, but who is also creating it,” he continues in his statement. “We cannot wait to discover the next superstar behind the decks and have them join our incredible Triller team. To all of you DJs around world, it’s time to show us your stuff!”

Complex also exclusively reports that the million-dollar music gig will be decided in true Verzuz fashion — through a battle where fans at home will have a chance to pick who they think should be crowned Triller’s resident DJ. To enter the competition, DJs should post five-minute sets onto Triller’s platform using the hashtag #TrillerDJ.

Triller will then narrow its candidate pool down to 16 chosen individuals on Aug. 8 and finalists will go head-to-head in a bracket until only four DJs remain. The final four will conclude the overall competition in their own live Verzuz battle on Sept. 10 at the TrillerVerz weekend music festival until one person snags the top spot.

News of the platform’s DJ search comes on the heels of Swizz Beatz receiving the Icon Award at a celebration of the culture’s most innovative creators, which highlighted Verzuz’ popularity throughout the pandemic.

He also clarified for those that accused the platform of “selling out” to Triller that the move was to make a statement about ownership in our culture.

“When people heard that me and Timb sold Verzuz, they didn’t really understand the concept of why we did that. You can own 100 percent of nothing and I don’t like that when it comes to our culture we can’t sell anything,” he said in his speech. “They can sell everything but we can’t sell anything or we sold out. Nah, we sold in, all 43 artists are going public with us. It’s going to be the biggest creative IPO in history.”

Looking ahead, the platform is all in on making major moves in the live streaming and entertainment space to take Verzuz to the next level — starting with Triller’s resident DJ.
