Ed Dwight, The First Black Astronaut Candidate In The US, Will Be In The Crew For Blue Origin's New Shepard-25 Space Mission

Blue Origin has birthed a full-circle moment for former Air Force Captain and Kansas City, KS, native Ed Dwight. Back in 1961, Dwight made history as he was selected by President John F. Kennedy as the first Black astronaut candidate in the U.S., according to a news release. However, after completing the Aerospace Research Pilot School (ARPS) and receiving a recommendation from the U.S. Air Force to move forward, he wasn’t selected for the NASA Astronaut Corps and missed out on the chance to fly to space. Now, six decades later, Dwight is set to be on board for Blue Origin’s latest New Shepard mission to space — marking its seventh human flight and 25th program to date — the news release details. What’s more, his seat is sponsored by the nonprofit Space for Humanity and the Jaison and Jamie Robinson Foundation. Before being selected for Blue Origin’s space mission, Dwight went from an early career as an entrepreneur to sculpting monuments that commemorate Black historical leaders...

Chris Smalls Goes From Being Fired From Amazon To Leading Historic Victory Of Its First-Ever Union

History was made in Staten Island, NY to kick off the new month of April. On April 1, Amazon workers in the city celebrated a major win against Jeff Bezos after voting to unionize the Amazon Staten Island warehouse, Vox reports. With the retail giant having a long history of being anti-union since its inception, there were 2,654 votes for the union and over 2,131 against, which “marks the first time a majority of workers at an Amazon facility in the US have voted to join a union.” The historic victory was led by Amazon Labor Union founder Chris Smalls. Chris Smalls, fired from Amazon almost two years ago to the day, just popped champagne outside the NLRB offices where he and his peers won one of the greatest labor victories in a generation. “To the first Amazon union in history,” he said. pic.twitter.com/ZHNcjFC5N1 — Jodi Kantor (@jodikantor) April 1, 2022 “@amazon wanted to make me the face of the whole unionizing efforts against them…welp there you go! @JeffBezos @DavisZapolsky...

If indeed, the Broncos go up for sale, Smith has expressed an interest in bidding on the team. The Broncos are reportedly worth $3.75 billion. “If Denver is put up for sale, it will likely be through an auction because it is under the Patrick D. Bowlen Trust,” reports the outlet, who added that the sale of the team would benefit the seven Bowlen children. What’s more, the outlet confirms that as part of the deal with the trust, the beneficiaries of the trust would have to honor the highest bid for the team. “If the team is put up for sale, a legal source familiar with the Broncos’ ownership transition told 9News that it would likely be through auction because the team is under the Patrick D. Bowlen Trust umbrella,” Denver’s 9News reported. “This means the trustees would have a fiduciary responsibility to the trust’s...

His stake would probably be similar to the one undertaken by Alex Rodriguez with the Minnesota Timberwolves, though Jay-Z has a significantly higher net worth than Rodriguez ($400 million),” reported the outlet. This isn’t the first time that the man born Shawn Carter has been rumored to be in the market to purchase sports teams. And this speculation was further fueled by a tip leaked by an anonymous source to the British newspaper City A.M. “This isn’t just going through the motions to set up cryptocurrency payment solutions at some point in the future—this is a full-on, well-discussed, integral part of the future mechanism of how Amazon will work,” the source said to the outlet.
