Shaquille O’Neal may have had a change of heart.
As AfroTech previously told you, Shaquille O’Neal backed down on his bid for the Phoenix Suns after realizing he would be in competition with Jeff Bezos.
“I was open [to the idea of purchasing the team] until I saw the initials JB. Let me tell you something, you don’t mess with James Brown, you don’t mess with Jeff Bezos,” he said on The Big Podcast. “When the boys come on stage, get your ass and go. So, Jeff said he wants it and a couple of other heavy hitters said they want it. I’m not even gonna put my name in the bucket on this one. I’m not.”
Since this conversation, there may still be hope for Shaquille O’Neal to purchase an ownership stake in the team, but only if Bezos wants to team up with him, TMZ Sports reports.
According to USA Today, “Amazon made $1.285 billion a day, $53.5 million an hour, and $2.23 million a minute last year. There are currently 163.5 million Amazon Prime members in the U.S. and 200 million members worldwide” in 2021.
With that in mind, Shaquille O’Neal knows Bezos’ pockets are something he can’t compete with.
“Nobody on this planet can compete with Big Man JB,” Shaq told TMZ Sports. “Because you know what? I just ordered 50 things off Amazon today. Big Man JB got that money coming in!”
When asked by TMZ Sports about a partnership with the Amazon founder Shaq added, “If he wants me on board, I would gladly like to talk to him.”
He continued: “But, as far as trying to own a whole team by myself, and go up against — let me tell you something, I’m scared of Big Man JB.”
As AfroTech previously reported, Shaquille O’Neal has an estimated net worth of $400 million.
In comparison, Jeff Bezos is worth $136.4 billion as of this writing, according to Forbes.
