French Montana is now in partnership with Gamma, the music startup led by former Apple Music executive Larry Jackson.
According to Music Week, the Moroccan-American rapper has had a long withstanding relationship with the company for years, but French Montana is now officially in business with the music creation innovator, starting with the release of his new track, “Good Summer.”
Jackson's Relationship With French Montana
“I have known French for over 10 years, and I am so excited to have him at our company as he is a true multi-disciplinary artist in keeping with the Gamma multi-disciplinary ethos,” Jackson, who serves as Gamma’s co-founder and CEO, said.
He continued: “French Montana, in my opinion, is also the best hip-hop A&R of the past decade. His ability to get the best out of his artists and producers alike is truly second to none. He continually mystifies me with how he continues to A&R and produce diamond single after diamond single. He’s a real deal, triple-threat talent.”
What’s more, French Montana, who has a career total of 40 billion streams thus far in the game, has record label experience with both the majors and independents having worked among the likes of Epic, Interscope, Empire, and more.
The Deal
Per his new venture with Gamma, French Montana is said to have turned down a $20 million deal in order to remain independent alongside the company, per Music Week. Moving forward, his music will be released through Gamma’s distribution effort, Vydia.
“Larry, Breyon [Prescott], and I go way back,” French Montana said. “What he’s built over the years at Apple is unmatched in the music industry, which is why I signed with Gamma. The moves they are already making as a company since they launched are incredible, especially the innovative way they are tackling African-born artists and their music.”
A Sturdy Foundation
Along with raising a remarkable $1 billion in funding, Gamma has already begun to lay its foundation to take the entertainment industry by storm. Thus far, the company has worked alongside Usher, Rick Ross, Russ, and Sexxy Red, as well as Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Record.
In the near future, Jackson’s company aims to tap into the world of podcasting with shows from Ross and Angelica Nwandu, founder of The Shade Room. Other film-centered projects are also underway.
