Travis Scott’s commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) continues. The global superstar’s Cactus Jack Foundation is ensuring that 100 college students are able to walk across the stage this year with a $1 million donation. The scholarship is named in honor of Scott’s grandfather, an HBCU alum and educator at Prairie View A&M University, located in the entertainer’s home state of Texas. The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund has provided $10,000 in scholarships to seniors facing hardship despite achieving academic excellence. What’s more, it is the second year that Scott has launched an initiative in support of HBCUs. “Excellence abounds in every Black household, but too often opportunity does not – and Black students are left behind or counted out,” said Scott in an official press release. “So that’s what my family and I set out to change. We congratulate all 100 scholarship recipients this year. I know we will see great things from them – and we are already...
Travis Scott didn’t always have it “Straight Up.” The man born Jacques Bermon Webster II in Houston, TX, was raised by his grandmother in his early years. But growing up in the South Central district of Houston meant that he was exposed to a life of poverty and crime. “My grandmother stayed in the hood so I seen random crazy stuff,” he said to Complex at the start of his career. “[I saw] mad bums and people looking weird, hungry, and grimy. I was always like, ‘I gotta get the f**k out of this place.’ It gave me my edge—[it made me] who I am right now.” Certainly, too, Travis Scott has come a long way from South Central Houston. Thanks to a wide variety of endorsement deals — including a $20 million endorsement deal from none other than McDonald’s — a successful music career, and even his extensive philanthropy efforts, he’s earned a net worth of an estimated $60 million, per Celebrity Net Worth. Let’s take a look at all the ways Travis Scott makes his money. Editorial note: The net...
Travis Scott will be donating millions to create a better future for the youth. TMZ reports the rapper is launching Project HEAL, a philanthropic undertaking that will pour $5 million into Travis Scott’s areas of interest where he wants to create change. This will include $1 million to support scholarships for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Travis Scott will reportedly use his Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund to oversee, budget, and distribute the awards. “The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund will grant $1M in scholarships to seniors at Historically Black Colleges and Universities who have reached academic excellence (averaging 3.5 or higher GPA) but who are facing the last-minute challenge of financial adversity in their second semester senior year and risk not graduating. The scholarships will help bring 100 HBCU students over the finish line, diploma in hand. This is the second year that Scott has supported HBCUs and represents a tenfold increase,” the...
Travis Scott is having quite the week in the city of Houston. As the rapper prepares for his Astroworld Festival, he’s also making time to give back through his Cactus Jack Foundation. In conjunction with Houston Independent School District, the rapper unveiled Cactus Jack Gardens at Young Elementary School Wednesday, Nov. 3, Houston Chronicle reported. According to the Cactus Jack Foundation’s website, the garden aims to provide students “agricultural, economics, and nutritional skills to combat food insecurity.” Students will have a gateway to dive into food, nutrition, agriculture and entrepreneurship under the initiative. “It’s kinda crazy that we’re able to bring this to the elementary school and allow kids to have that same experience I was having when I was a kid,” Scott said, according to The Houston Chronicle. “I just love to see this community grow up and get into a very good spot, where it’s a super safe and creative environment for these kids.” The debut was a family...
Working for your favorite rapper’s company is already a plus, but being compensated for it is the ultimate reward. Travis Scott has been lining up collaborations with brands throughout the year and now thanks to one of his latest ventures of CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer, college students are being granted the opportunity to work with the rapper’s company. As college students will be returning to their campuses soon in the fall, Scott and the CACTI team recently revealed their college ambassador program. According to CACTI’s statement, the program intends to offer college students “ both marketing and leadership, ongoing coaching and professional development and networking.” The alcoholic beverage line was released back in March of this year and the ambassadors will now be on board with the brand’s marketing expansion. “Update those resumes because this semester’s hottest back-to-campus job is officially accepting applications,” said CACTI in their press release. Since hiring during...
The bots won’t let Travis Scott — or his fans — be great. Revolt TV is reporting that the rapper-mogul’s Fragment Design Air Jordan 1 release was tainted by what they’re calling “sneaker bots.” Here’s what happened: some of Scott’s most devoted fans used a bot program called Linear AIO to secure tens of thousands of raffle tickets for their chance to land the coveted sneakers. One entrant nailed more than 25,000 entries, and another landed more than 30,000 entries, thanks to the bot. But while that helped fans who had the program to secure nearly 100 pairs of sneakers at a time, it left other disappointed fans out in the cold. One fan tweeted at Travis Scott, “This kinda stuff is disheartening. You try and try as a fan to show love and support for the artist and no matter how hard you try you lose to a bot who enters thousands of times. I mean… I’m gonna keep trying… but odds are against us fans.” More than 200 pairs of shoes, which retailed for $265 a pair, were secured with more...
Just like her father, Travis Scott’s daughter Stormi Webster might be making her own boss moves soon. In a recent video from Kylie Jenner, the reality star discusses all the entrepreneurial influences in her daughter Stormi’s life and implies that she may also be joining these women with her own business endeavor. “She’s actually launching a little secret brand soon that we’ve been working on awhile but finally it’s the pedal to the medal,” Jenner says in the video. The footage in the video also showed Stormi at Kylie Cosmetics’ headquarters along with a small kids table set that Jenner describes as her daughter’s “own office where she gets all her business done.” While details of the secret brand and how much Stormi will be involved have yet to be revealed, Jenner makes it clear that Stormi has plenty of strong men and women in her family to look up to as business owners. Stormi could potentially follow in her father’s footsteps, which have gone far beyond the realm of the music...
