Dismantling Racism In The Metaverse

One of the ways activists have been creating a safe and equitable space is by ensuring that statues that represent the deplorable history of racism are torn down. Among the list of those who are a part of that movement is Devon Henry.

Since 2020, Henry and his contractors have been responsible for removing and relocating over 20 Confederate statues and monuments. He is now taking his physical work in construction into charitable action through “The Thirteen Stars” NFT Collection.

Scheduled to drop on Juneteenth, the collection will represent the 13 stars on the Confederate flag. Henry hopes to use this project as a means to reclaim history by collecting 13 exclusive pieces of artwork that will help raise awareness for the charities the NFTs represent.

“The task of dismantling these statues has literally been monumental,” said Henry, who faced harassment and even death threats as a result of answering the call to “re” mantle history. “It’s very humbling to be the one who fulfills a 131-year prophecy. But that’s not enough. I feel a responsibility to use these deconstructed pieces of our past to construct a better tomorrow.”

The inaugural collection will give owners a plan to own digital history while helping the organization raise its goal of $1 million for 13 charitable institutions.
