The summer weather isn’t the only thing coming in hot. There’s apparently a non-fungible token (NFT) heatwave as new collections are added to the digital community almost daily.

With so many options, investors and enthusiasts alike have many options to choose from. Check out the latest set of NFTs AfroTech has been paying attention to.

A Little Something Extra With Your Coffee

Starbucks announced plans to step into the web3 space with an NFT collection. Anticipated to launch later in 2022, the collection will allow owners exclusive access to unique content and other experiences, according to a report by TechCrunch.

In a presentation to its investors, the Seattle-based coffee brand wants the NFT collection to be an extension of its brand.

Starbucks also notes that the NFT collection will be hosted on an “environmentally sustainable” web3 platform.

“We plan to start with our first NFT collection, membership, and community later this year, based on coffee art and storytelling. It will come with a host of unique experiences and benefits, worthy of a genesis NFT collection from Starbucks,” a company blog post read.

NFTs Focused On The Future

Autograph, the Web3 brand co-founded by Tom Brady, announced their “The Future is…” athlete partners in a new brand campaign.

The campaign features the next generation of athletes who are changing the game beyond the sports they play. The group of athletic powerhouses includes Devin Booker, guard for the Phoenix Suns; Sabrina Ionescu, guard for the New York Liberty; Coco Gauff, American professional tennis star; Collin Morikawa, American professional golfer, and two-time major champion; and Justin Herbert, quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Each athlete’s collection will have three NFTs and contain challenges to complete to enhance the owner’s experience with exclusive utilities and rewards that reflect the athletes’ passions, from style to shoes and cars. The first collection from the program will kick off with Sabrina Ionescu, which will drop on May 10, and it will be available to view on Autograph.io and can be purchased on the DraftKings Marketplace.

“I’m so excited to be a part of the next era of digital collecting and the Web3 world alongside so many other amazing athletes,” said Sabrina Ionescu. “I want to make sure the next generation knows that there’s a place for them in Web3, and Autograph is helping to pave the way.”

Who Run The World? Girls!

During Mary J. Blige’s inaugural “Strength of a Woman Festival & Summit,” Pepsi will unveil a unique NFT collection, a press release revealed. In collaboration with Rachel Winter, Shaylin Wallace, Amber Vittoria, and Varvara Alay, the NFTs will be distributed as digital tokens known as Proof of Attendance Protocols (POAPs), pieces of art that celebrate the partnership with the Festival & Summit and unapologetic love for music.

Exclusively made for festival attendees, collection owners will have one-of-a-kind digital works of art for free. Attendees can then display them proudly in their digital collection as a symbol of support for female empowerment within the Web3 community.

A Sneaker Community

Rares is the only platform solely focused on collectible sneakers as alternative assets. Recently, the platform announced the launch of its inaugural NFT project, the Hype Drop L Club membership program.

The project takes a nuanced approach to incentivize the community of sneakerheads and enthusiasts who have taken Ls on Nike’s SNKRS App. According to a press release, the membership program will give people a chance to turn a usually unpleasant experience into something meaningful and valuable that they own.

Weekly, participants can turn their losses into virtual wins with real value on the Rares platform.

“Sneaker enthusiasts are often frustrated by the Hype Drop sneaker lottery system currently in place for buying shoes and left disappointed by losses week after week; we wanted to make this experience more lighthearted and fun, building a community of like-minded people around it with a collective voice,” said Gerome Sapp, CEO, and Founder at Rares.

L NFTs will release weekly alongside SNKRS’ weekly lotteries. The Hype Drop L Club will launch with two initial NFT levels, Diamond and Club. The Diamond Level L NFTs, the most scarce and valuable, are limited each week to the first 100 individuals who submit screenshots of their SNKRS App L. The Club Level L NFT, though still valuable, isn’t as scarce. They are reserved for the 101-1000 people to submit their SNKRS App L each week. The Club Level NFTs cost $5.00, while the Diamond Level NFTs are $60.00.

From A Viral Moment To A Digital Come Up

In 2016, Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil had a video of him smoking marijuana from a gas mask posted to his Twitter account. Due to the incident, his draft value plummeted.

Tunsil is not letting the incident be a constant negative cloud over his head. In a recent Tweet, he noted that he is moving on by minting an NFT of the now infamous gas mask video.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Last Prisoner Project, supporting individuals incarcerated for cannabis-related offenses.
