“Immigrating from Trinidad and Tobago it was always my dream to be an owner of a major restaurant franchise,” said Carter in an official news release shared with AfroTech. “Being the largest black owner of a QSR Franchise alongside Coach K at an establishment as great as Bojangles brings me great honor and I am deeply blessed.”
Forward Movement Only
As someone who has played a role in building a record label from the ground up and producing some of today’s greatest stars like City Girls, Migos, Lil Baby, and more, Coach K has always been committed to the betterment of the culture.
For him, the recent move is no different.

“I am very excited and I hope to be able to inspire teens and black youth who grew up in underserved, low income homes,” said Coach K in a statement. “I want them to know they can be successful businessmen and with an accomplishment as great as this, I am honored to embody that.”
The Partnership
The agreement with Bojangles is a continuance of the fast-food chain’s accelerated growth that has taken place over the course of 2022. This year, alone, the company opened more than 100 new locations to build upon its development pipeline which includes target markets like Dallas-Fort Worth, Baltimore, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., and more.
Now, they aim to bring the same opportunities to Atlanta.
“Over the last few years, we have been aggressively seeking opportunities to grow our footprint in Atlanta, and we are thrilled to have reached an agreement with two influential voices in the city’s community,” said Patricia Halpin, Vice President of Franchise Growth, Bojangles. “Mel and Coach K bring a unique perspective and energy to our network of operators that will be extremely beneficial to the brand’s growth going forward.”
