In 2021, Drake dropped “Certified Lover Boy” to kick off the fall season. In 2022, he dropped a collaborative album with 21 Savage that has music fans talking about various things associated with the album.
Aubrey Graham has once again stirred up tons of conversation about his art, career, and personal life — from iconic new lines that will undoubtedly turn into Instagram captions to mentioning other celebrities and those associated with them. And one of the associated people at the center of the discussions about Drake’s new album is Megan Thee Stallion.
The track “Circo Loco” makes an alleged reference to Megan regarding the ongoing battle between her and Torey Lanez. While the connection in the lyrics has not been confirmed nor denied by the Canadian rapper, it hasn’t stopped fans from responding with their thoughts.
Beyond the drama there, Megan Thee Stallion is receiving writing credit on an album that, based on the above lyrical assumptions, doesn’t speak about her in the most favorable light.
Another track on Drake and 21 Savage’s album, “Her Loss,” uses an interpolation of Megan’s song, “Savage.” On the track “Rich Flex,” 21 Savage raps, “I’m a savage / smack her booty in Magic / I’ll slap a p*ssy n**** with a ratchet.”
Although Megan The Stallion never put pen to paper to contribute to this album, the interpolation is enough for her to receive writing credit and ultimately put money in her pockets.
Megan is among many people at the center of interpolation discussions regarding big albums this year.
Beyoncé interpolated Kelis’ “Milkshake” and Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy” on her summer album, “Renaissance.”
In one case, Beyoncé removed the “Milkshake” interpolation after online discourse from Kelis. On the other hand, Right Said Fred alleged that Beyoncé did not get permission to interpolate their song, she responded with receipts disproving their claims.
Considering the vibe surrounding the album, there has been no word on whether Megan Thee Stallion will act on the interpolation used on “Her Loss.”
