The 18th annual Disney Dreamer’s Academy is underway. It will bring together a diverse group of high school students from across the country for a transformational mentoring program at Walt Disney World Resort.
On Thursday, March 27, 2025, “Abbott Elementary” star Tyler James Williams — joining the fun as this year’s “DREAMbassador” — helped welcome 100 high school students who are shaping the future in fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to Orlando, FL.
The day featured a parade at Magic Kingdom, where Williams served as the honorary grand marshal. After the parade, Williams shared that he was particularly excited to attend storytelling sessions, noting that he’s a storyteller “first and foremost.”
When asked by AFROTECH™ about the impact of AI-generated content and streaming platforms on the future of storytelling, Williams said he believes technology will always play a significant role.
“I think technology will always play a role,” Williams told us. “It’s one of the reasons why we are doing reboots and stuff now. Like the stuff we can do with ‘The Little Mermaid’ now that we just couldn’t do years ago. So, I think it will always play a role in some way.”
However, he noted that nothing can replace the human touch.
“I’m not as hyper-concerned as everybody else is about the difficulties that come, because you will never ever be able to duplicate or replicate the human mind,” he added. “There’s some kids somewhere around here thinking of something that I don’t know how many times you can program an algorithm or an AI. They’ll never get to that. That’s the key. It can assist us in our journey in making things, but it will never take over.”
Walt Disney Ambassador Shannon Smith-Conrad highlighted the importance of storytelling and innovation to the Disney legacy, tracing it back to founder Walt Disney himself.
“[Walt Disney] loved the power of storytelling and innovation,” Smith-Conrad told AFROTECH™. “And those two powers together is how we have the partners we have today. So, I know that when it comes to technology and its imagination, it’s going to keep being a key player in how we tell stories here at Disney. And the sky’s the limit. You know, Walt said, keep moving forward. And that’s exactly what we plan to do here at Walt Disney World.”
