Katossa Glover is a certified boss, owning two businesses in a North Carolina mall.

According to Queen City News, Glover secured retail space for her business Applause! Hair Designs at Northlake Mall in Charlotte, NC, in 2020. Then due to the pandemic, she had to take a step back from the business.

Despite initial setbacks, Glover’s resilience prevailed. Now, mall-goers can visit and support her hair salon alongside a newly established nail shop, which had its grand opening in 2023.

“When we reopened, our clients rushed the door,” Glover told Queen City News. “So it’s the support of not only the hair salon clients because those clients are now coming here because they were so excited about the nail salon opening. So, it feels like we have our own community here in this corner.”

Tracey Pickard, a long-time customer of Glover’s, told the outlet, “I would describe Katossa as an anchor. You can always, you can take a breather because of your schedule or just life hits. But she’s always there to welcome you back and to pick up where she left off.”

Recently emerging from the Black Friday period, Glover says she experienced a surge in sales from her businesses, which she described as “nothing short of amazing.”

“We were packed from 8 a.m. until literally 9 p.m.,” Glover expressed to the outlet. “We closed the door and I had to tell people at 9 p.m. ‘We can’t take anybody else.’ I heard people say that normally that’s not the case in nail salons and hair salons, but Black Friday for us was nothing short of amazing.”

Glover is currently living out her dreams and relishing in her accomplishment.

“I’d never seen a full-service Black salon in the mall,” she told Queen City News. “And it was honestly a dream of ours, and I didn’t know it would come to fruition. But when we came to Northlake, they embraced us and they’ve been supportive ever since.”
