Juicy J Reveals He Owns 45 Percent Of The Publishing Rights On A$AP Ferg's 'Plain Jane'

The Memphis rapper revealed that he sees 100 percent of the publishing when other artists use his famous cadence from the hit Three 6 Mafia track, “Slob On My Knob.”

“100 percent of the publishing, we own it, me and Paul,” said Juicy J during an appearance on Hot97.  “I never sold it.”

Despite the fact that the classic song came out nearly 24 years ago in 1999, it has been sampled in at least 26 songs, serving as the inspiration for hit singles like G-Eazy’s “No Limit” and A$AP Ferg’s “Plain Jane.”

At one point during the interview, Juicy J explained that while he traditionally gets the full royalties on songs that have sampled the record, for “Plain Jane,” he receives 45 percent of the publishing.

“I clear like 3/4 samples a day. so they hit me up, like ‘Yo, we got this sample, and we’re getting this much percentage.’ All I have to do is hit approve,” said Juicy J. “I really let them do all the paperwork and all of the negotiations.”

The original song was named the most influential rap song of 2018 by Rolling Stone, but Juicy J says he was just playing around when he wrote it in the 11th grade.

“I was just bullsh-ttin’, you know what I mean? You know, you write some things and, you know, you don’t really take it seriously,” he said at the time. “I just talked about stuff that went around in my neighborhood. I just considered myself just bullsh-tting with it.”

He also revealed that up until 2018, the song rarely got any love from the radio stations.

“The song never got no radio play ’til now,” Juicy J told Rolling Stone. “It was always an underground song, you know.”
