How Growing Up In 'Run's House' Led To Entrepreneurial Success For Vanessa And Angela Simmons

Vanessa and Angela Simmons first made names for themselves on the hit reality show, “Run’s House.” But despite being the daughters of Joseph Simmons — otherwise known as “Rev. Run,” or one-half of the legendary Run-DMC — the two ladies have certainly made a name for themselves, independent of their famous last name.

Angela Simmons is, perhaps, best known as one of the stars of “Growing Up Hip-Hop.” On the show, she depicts her trials and travails of being a businesswoman and a single mother. But despite the struggles she’s gone through, she’s emerged triumphant.

Best of all, she enjoys a close and loving relationship with her sister, Vanessa. Nowhere was this more evident than in a 2007 article for Chron magazine, where the sisters traded friendly banter as journalists wondered whether their Pastry shoe line would take off (It’s worth noting that Angela Simmons cited Beyoncé as a “fashion icon” long before she became the Queen Bey, so she gets points for that alone. You go, girl).

Today, Pastry continues to be a successful shoe brand, and it’s been named the number one dance sneaker in the United States. According to the company’s official website, they’ve partnered with 22 NBA Dance Teams and 15 NFL teams. So, it’s safe to say that the naysayers were wrong.

Let’s take a look at the respective net worths of these two Simmons’ sisters, who are legends in their own right.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Vanessa Simmons has a net worth of $8 million. Most of her net worth comes from her salary as an actress, model, reality star and shoe designer.

A graduate of St. John’s University, Vanessa Simmons got her start as an actress on such shows as “Guiding Light” and in the movie “Boogie Town.” After a brief stint as a model — where she made Maxim Magazine’s 2006 “Hot List” — she and her sister, Angela, launched the Pastry footwear collection in 2007. Pastry footwear was a part of the Run Athletics brand.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Angela Simmons — the younger of the two Simmons sisters — has a net worth of $7.5 million, which is just $500,000 less than her older sister. Like her Vanessa, Angela is also a part-owner of the Pastry line of shoes.

But Angela also had a gig as a magazine writer — for a time, she had her own column in Word Up! magazine. Additionally, she also had a magazine of her own called Angela’s Rundown, which was named after her column in Word Up! magazine (It was also a play on words).

Today, she can be seen on “Growing up Hip-Hop.”

What About The Other Simmons' Children?

Joseph “Rev. Run” Simmons has seven children including the late Victoria Anne Simmons. In addition, there’s Angela and Vanessa Simmons, Diggy Simmons, Russell Simmons II, JoJo Simmons (who has a net worth of $2 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth), and Miley Justine Simmons. Vanessa and Angela Simmons, however, have the highest net worths out of all his children.
