More exposure to the environment at Tesla for Black employees has to come to light, and it’s not looking good — at all. The Los Angles Times reports that the American electric vehicle and clean energy company is currently under fire after several Black employees allege unfair and racist treatment occurring at the company’s California plant. One of the most alarming claims along with repeated incidents of being subject to racial slurs is that a number of Black employees were allegedly moved to the back of the plant when Tesla CEO Elon Musk would visit because “they didn’t want a Black face up there.” These accounts of alleged racial discrimination at the plant add to the lawsuit filed against Tesla by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing on Feb. 9. AfroTech previously reported that the suit was filed on behalf of over 4,000 Black employees, both current and former, making it the largest racial discrimination lawsuit filed by the state due to the number of people...
Leave it to Elon Musk to push the boundaries of technology. In a recent live-streamed video interview with the Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Summit, billionaire Elon Musk shared what’s to come for Neuralink. The brain-interface technology company co-founded by Elon Musk in 2016 aims to begin implanting microchips in humans as early as this year. The implant has already been tested on a monkey who was featured playing MindPong. https://www.instagram.com/p/CYVNnRrJVBE/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link “We have Neuralink working well in monkeys. We are also doing a lot of testing and confirming that it’s very safe and reliable and that the Neuralink device can be removed safely. People may have seen the demo that we published earlier this year with the video of the monkey playing the video game Pong telepathically using the Neuralink in its brain,” Elon Musk said, according to the Wall Street Journal. “It’s completely wireless, charges inductively, so the monkey looks completely normal...
Kyle Kuzma is in hot water. The NBA superstar took up for billionaire Elon Musk in a recent tweet, a tweet that seemingly mocks people who claim that the Tesla capo doesn’t pay his fair share of taxes. “ThE rIcH DoNt PaY tAxEs” https://t.co/Tovh6Bv2LJ — kuz (@kylekuzma) December 29, 2021 This tweet also hits hard when you consider that, according to ProPublica (via Complex), the super-rich like Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates have avoided paying their fair share of taxes for years . What’s more, Musk — who has nothing if not a problematic history with his Black workforce — has only paid about 3.27 percent of his annual income in taxes since 2014. That’s far from “his fair share.” And, comparatively speaking, Kyle Kuzma misspoke when he mocked people’s complaints about the subject. “I know your teachers used to hand you your tests back face-down,” wrote one commenter. “ Rich people like Elon really have fooled nerds on Twitter defending them paying no taxes,” wrote another. And, it...
Promobot — the largest service robotics manufacturers in Northern and Eastern Europe — is offering $200,000 USD for an individual who is willing to forfeit the rights to their face and voice to spearhead the development of its next robot. Since making its first steps in 2013, according to the Russian company’s website, it has reportedly been most recognized for its production of humanoid robots such as the “Android-Robo-C,” an ambitious project which allowed individuals to purchase a customizable robot that can emulate the appearance of anyone. “Everyone will now be able to order a robot with any appearance—for professional or personal use,” said Aleksei Iuzhakov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Promobot, in a statement at the time, according to Newsweek.
Forbes has dropped its annual list of 400 Richest Americans. For the fourth year in a row, Jeff Bezos — the founder of Amazon — was No. 1 on the list. According to the outlet, he’s worth $201 billion, which is a staggering $22 billion more than where he was last year on the list. Right behind Bezos is America’s favorite problematic dude-bro, Elon Musk, who is worth a little over $190 billion. Mark Zuckerberg, the man behind Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp comes in at No. 3 with just under $135 billion in net worth. Bill Gates is No. 4 on the Forbes Richest Americans list, with a slightly lower net worth than Zuckerberg ($134 billion). And rounding out the top five is Larry Page, who recently stepped down as the CEO of Google but still remains a controlling shareholder and board member — and who has a $123 billion net worth. Yet, despite the diversity of the richest Americans on the Forbes list in nearly every other way, one group remains largely unrepresented on the list: Black...
When Will Smith first exploded onto the scene, he had the “persona” of the “Fresh Prince.” He was also $6 million in debt. In order to get out of debt, he decided to pivot from rapping to acting. “When I moved into acting that was the first time I started applying skill to my talents,” he said. “For me, to be a movie star was the first thing I ever really wanted like that and set my eyes on.” Today, however, Will Smith has turned the entire ship around. According to Celebrity Net Worth, he has a total net worth of $350 million. Most of his net worth comes from his highly successful acting career — including the “Bad Boys” franchise of films — as well as the wide diversity of his investments. Between 1993 and 2013, he made $200 million in movie salaries. He strategically began working with production companies and streaming platforms like Netflix to elevate even further. According to Hollywood Reporter, he boldly and successfully negotiated $27 million upfront when working on the...
