According to Nets Daily, Tharparkar, located in Pakistan’s Sindh province is one of the poorest parts of one of the world’s poorest countries. After realizing the lack of water resources in the area and that the district has been suffering from a drought for 17 consecutive years, a Michigan-based non-governmental organization (NGO) that has Pakistani roots decided to take action. And, thankfully, Irving and his KAI Family Foundation stepped in to help as well. The Paani Project set a goal to construct a solar-powered water plant in Tharparkar’s poorest village, Rohal — deemed one of the hottest places on the planet — and Irving and his foundation provided the funds. The Golden Globes has a whiteness problem, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is here to change it. According to Variety, the HFPA — the governing body behind the popular awards — has announced that it’s unveiled a series of reforms designed to combat the diversity issue that is clearly plaguing their organization. In addition to addressing the diversity issue, the new Golden Globes reforms put limits on the gifts its voters can accept and the payment they receive for their work on committees. As of this writing, the HFPA has less than 90 members. Under the new proposed reforms, the HFPA will add 20 more members to their committee, with a commitment to specifically target and admit Black members. But there’s a bit of a fly in the ointment of these sweeping new proposals: they won’t be passed unless they’re met with the unanimous approval of the current, sitting committee. Travis Scott’s commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is paying off! Billboard reports that the “Pick Up The Phone” rapper has been awarded for his philanthropic efforts of assisting students at HBCUs. He is one of five recipients to receive the honor at the Red Carpet Advocacy (RAD) impact awards, which aims to highlight those who “inspire purpose,” according to Billboard. In October 2020, Scott announced via Twitter that he would cover tuition expenses for five students who attended HBCUs. “AND I KNOW SCHOOL JUST STARTED AND I WANNA TAKE CARE OF 5 KIDS TUITION FOR THEIR FIRST SEMESTER OF SCHOOL!!! According to Black Enterprise, renowned jewelry designer, Lorraine Schwartz has partnered with Beyoncé to build the scholarship which was awarded to three people within the Black community. Full tuition will go toward the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Audriana Osborne, Shelton Bradford, and Kulla Jatani were hand-selected by the “Black Is King” creator to receive The Beyoncé Knowles-Carter x Lorraine Schwartz GIA Scholarship in the amount of $20,000 each. “I’m so full of gratitude.
