How NFTs Have Impacted The Lives Of These Artists Who Were A Part Of LIFEWTR's Black Art Rising Campaign

Black creatives push the culture forward, period. Premium bottled water brand LIFEWTR has remained committed to serving as a source of inspiration and hydration through its latest initiative alongside actress and creative Marsai Martin. Martin will serve as the Creative Curator of Black Art Rising, where she will contribute, collaborate with, and spotlight some of the best in the game when it comes to Black content creators in the newly formed LIFEWTR TikTok medium. Courtesy of Life Water “Having grown up in the entertainment industry and being a creative myself, I’ve seen the lack of resources and representation within the Black content creator community,” said Martin in an official statement. “That’s why I’m excited to partner with LIFEWTR and their Black Art Rising campaign. Being able to create opportunities that spotlight and celebrate Black digital creators who are pushing the culture forward is something I will always support.” Continuing the digital content leg of the...

After Facing Injuries, Ex-MLB Player Micah Johnson Became An Artist With Digital Artwork Valued At $19M

If it weren’t for injuries stemming from baseball, Micah Johnson would have never had an NFT collection worth millions of dollars. Johnson’s story was recently told in Fortune Magazine, where he revealed that, per CryptoArt, the primary and secondary sales of his NFT collection totaled $19 million. But that’s not how things were meant to go in his initial plan. Johnson started out as a baseball player. From 2015 to 2017, he played for teams like the Chicago White Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and The Atlanta Braves. But after suffering a series of injuries, including a torn shoulder and a fractured wrist, Johnson hung up his baseball mitt and picked up a paintbrush, devoting his time to becoming a full-time visual artist. But things changed again in 2019 when Johnson realized he was expecting a child with his long-term partner. He’d learned about NFTs as a way to possibly make more money selling his art, and put together his first NFT collection. The first sale from his digital art...

On Top Of His African Crypto-City Empire, Akon Sets Sights On Releasing An Album As An NFT

Akon is merging the world of crypto with the music scene, announcing that his next album will be sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) , Esquire reports. “Throughout my career, I have always believed that artists never really got their fair share of the profits for the work they produced and people listen to,” Akon told Esquire. “So with the idea of owning a piece of digital art, via an NFT, it allows the creator to benefit more and actually get more of the pie.” While his plans further affirm cryptocurrency’s ability to allow artists to maximize earnings from their content, it appears profit is not the only interest to Akon as he cites the NFT drop will allow for transparency and access to information from album buyers. “ My next album is going to be an NFT album. With that, I’ll be able to monetize it from the day it drops on every platform that exists. What that means is that it opens the door to full transparency where your music is being played, who’s playing it, where they’re...

Miami Art Week and Art Basel events take place Dec. 2 through 4 this year, and the annual celebrations will include some NFT (non-fungible token) exhibits. As AfroTech previously reported, NFTs can be anything that has been digitally authenticated, from music to art to gifs and beyond. Hence, it only makes sense to see them during Miami Art Week and Art Basel. Suppose you’re looking to brush up on your knowledge of the growing NFT industry ahead of the art week events. In that case, NFT BZL is hosting a day-long symposium featuring NFT experts on Nov. 30 to educate attendees on digital art. Here are some NFT exhibitions we think you should check out during the annual art week.
