A Black-owned management company based in the city of Houston, TX, will be putting a spotlight on more businesses after signing a lucrative deal with the Houston City Council.

Aviation Pros reports a 10-year contract valued at $334 million between Latrelle’s Galley and the city of Houston will bring ten restaurants to the William P. Hobby Airport.

The restaurants include, but are not limited to:

  • Common Bond
  • The Rustic
  • Velvet Taco
  • Dish Society
  • Pinks Pizza
  • Jersey Mike’s

For Latrelle’s Galley, the deal is a chance to pay it forward. The family-owned company got its first start at Hobby Airport.

According to Houston Public Media, the company was selling baked goods in the airport as early as 1985.

“In 1985, my father’s first airport location was a 350-square-foot bakery in Hobby Airport. With today’s decision by this City Council, we will now operate over 17,000 square feet of Hobby Airport’s food and beverage locations. What an opportunity,” said Kenneth James, Chief Financial Officer, Latrelle’s Management, in a statement, according to Houston Public Media. “We are a local, family-owned and operated business. This is proof that given the access to compete on equal footing, small companies can execute large responsibilities. This is a privilege and an honor. We are humbled and grateful.”

Looking ahead, the Black-owned management company’s focus will be to work on Hobby Airport’s dining destinations which are projected to generate $73 million in sales and $8 million in net profit for the family-owned company per Aviation Pros. In addition, nearly 300 jobs are expected to be created as a result of the deal per Houston Public Media.

“We are bringing ourselves to this project, and we are Houston,” said Cameron James, Operations Director of LaTrelle’s, according to ESSENCE. “Including national brands alongside a curated list of top local brands in our new plans for Hobby Airport was a natural choice for us, rooted in trust and relationships. We put together a proposal that aims to do right by our restaurant operators and the airport alike––everyone wins. When a local, family-owned and operated business like us is given the opportunity to spearhead a venture like this, it also sends an important message to other entrepreneurs: This is something that can happen in this city.”

Beginning in April 2023, construction for the new restaurants will be underway and Hobby Airport goers can expect to see the completion of this project within two years.
