As the nation celebrated mothers this past weekend, one mommy-daughter duo took it a bit further with a special edition of sneakers that are a nod to their relationship.
Just in time for her 15th WNBA season, Candace Parker sported a special pair of adidas sneakers designed by her 12-year-old daughter Lailaa Parker, reports Boardroom.
“These are the moments I live for as a mother,” said Parker in an Instagram caption debuting the new kicks.
Adidas Exhibit B
Just over a year ago, adidas Basketball designers teamed up with Lailaa to begin working on the latest model of sneakers. The new version is an update to the Exhibit A “ACE” model worn by her mother during the 2021 WNBA season. What’s more, Parker clinched a championship in the first season with Chicago while sporting the kicks.
The shoes feature colors that pay homage to her days as both a Tennessee Lady Volunteer as well as a red hue on the shoes’ outsoles that show love to her former high school, Naperville High School.
An Ode to Mom
Lailaa was sure to hook her mother up with a personal pair of sneakers that paid homage to the relationship between the two and her mother’s relationship with former Tennessee Vols coach Pat Summitt.
Both insoles and outsoles have a phrase that the 36-year-old has always lived by: “Right Foot, Left Foot, Breathe, Repeat.”
“That’s something that I have [tattooed] on my arm, and something Pat [Summitt] used to always tell me,” Parker said in a previous interview with Boardroom. “[She’d say,] ‘when things get hard, just put one foot in front of the other, breathe and repeat.’”
The inner left shoe includes text that reads “For Pat” in cursive. On the other foot, there’s a message from Lailaa that reads “For Mom.”
Lastly, the heel portion of both shoes reads “Reason.”
“She is my reason and my purpose and having her with me on the court last night in this spirit meant the world to me,” said Parker. “Each detail is a memory shared between us and I could not be prouder to have debuted these at [Friday’s] game.”
