Candace Parker is now a proud owner of a pro sports team.
The WNBA player just joined the star-studded ownership group of The National Women’s Soccer League and Los Angeles Angel City. The expansion team was announced back in August under the leadership of president and founder Julie Uhrman. Owners include Serena Williams, actor Natalie Portman, and USWNT Hall of Famer Mia Hamm.
“On behalf of the NWSL and our member clubs, we are thrilled to officially welcome Angel City Football Club, and this exciting and committed ownership group, to the league,” said NWSL commissioner, Lisa Baird, in an official announcement of the organization’s name. “The soccer community in Southern California is filled with passionate fans of the game and I can’t wait to see them rally around their own team and help us continue to grow the NWSL.”
According to CBS Sports, not only are Williams and Parker a part of the ownership group, but they’ve also brought along their daughters — Alexis Olympia Ohanian and Lailaa Nicole Williams– as co-owners too.
“Lailaa and I are pumped! We are fans of @weareangelcity already!!,” said Candace in an Instagram post. “Keep dreaming and Mommy’s right here with you.”
Included in the big names that belong to the ownership group are tennis icons, Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss.
“We need everyone to invest in women’s sports and Ilana and I are proud to stand with the Angel City FC ownership group and help make history in Southern California,” said King. “Angel City’s mission to make an impact on and off the field and to provide an opportunity to some of the best professional female athletes in the world to play on a state as powerful as Los Angeles sends a strong message to young girls in the community and beyond.”
