TC Bakery Becomes The First Black Woman-Owned Bakery In Tallahassee International Airport

Coming from a family of business owners, Young fully stepping into entrepreneurship began in her home nearly seven years ago.

“My parents, Isaac and Tommie Williams, owned a popular restaurant in the ’80s and ’90s called Ma Mary’s Kitchen, located on the campus of FAMU,” Young told Tallahassee Foodies. “My mother died when I was ten, and my daddy continued to raise me as a single father.”

She continued, “I began baking in 2016 after the birth of my twins, using a cookbook that was passed down to me and added my own twist to the recipes. At the time, I was dealing with postpartum depression and needed an outlet to soothe the anxiety and sadness I felt.”

By 2019, Young transitioned from cooking in her home to opening a storefront for her soul food restaurant and bakery where her parents ran theirs spot. However, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic led her to focus on baked goods rather than soul food. Young made the right decision as her desserts became a hit.

TC Bakery’s menu features lemon blueberry cake, sweet potato cheesecake, banana pudding cheesecake, and more.

As TC Bakery has entered a new phase of business at Tallahassee International Airport, future expansion plans also include opening a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen space, franchising, and being on the shelves of more stores, the outlet notes. What’s more, Young is looking to raise capital, acquire more space, and have an increase in supplies for the bakery.
