Kyri Mosley, Ph.D., has received a stamp of approval from Oprah Winfrey.

The entrepreneur and former medical professional attracted the attention of the billionaire due to her business, Kyri’s Kookies.

According to 11Alive in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Mosley had discovered a love for baking the treats while spending time in the kitchen with her grandmother.

“That’s how I got my beginning,” she told 11Alive.

Still, although she began sharing her cookies with more people in 2009, helped by her young son, she wasn’t ready to start charging people.

Continuing her goal of spreading happiness and dealing with a recent divorce, the mother and son would send care packages to colleagues and patients at Community Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, where she worked and to the armed forces.

“This went on for years,” Mosley explained to the outlet. “And just getting their feedback was encouraging because they would always tell me, ‘Why aren’t you doing this for the rest of the world? They need to taste your cookies,’ and I was like ‘That’s never going to happen.'”

It wasn’t until she faced more challenges, including getting a diagnosis of Stage 4 Ewing Sarcoma in 2019, that she experienced an awakening to fully embrace entrepreneurship.

“The trauma of the diagnosis propelled me to say, ‘This is your passion,'” she expressed to 11Alive. “This is what you love to do.”

In 2021, Mosley had officially revamped Kyri’s Kookies and was selling various cookies in flavors that include buttery kookie dough, rich chocolate chunks, organic oats and plump, ripe berries.

According to information provided to AFROTECH, the business has attracted the attention of several hotel partnerships that include Thompson Savannah, Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Grand Hyatt Buckhead, and Marriott Marquis Atlanta, among others.

What’s more, Kyri’s Kookies was recently featured in Oprah’s Favorite Things in 2023.

“The founder behind this box of ginormous cookies—chocolate chunk, oatmeal cran-raisin, Georgia pecan turtle, and more—promises a hug in every bite. She’s not wrong,” a statement from Winfrey read on the Favorite Things website.

That isn’t the only blessing to recently fall into Mosley’s lap. She opened her first brick-and-mortar location in Dallas, GA, in December 2022.
