Going into college and finishing a degree is probably the most significant achievement that every student dreams of. However, due to expensive enrollment rates from different colleges and universities around the country, it hinders most from completing their dream.
While some students take the risk of borrowing money from student loans, some can obtain financial aid from reputable African American advancement organizations such as the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (N.A.A.C.P.), Congressional Black Caucus, Inc., and other non-profit organizations that support the African American community.
Here we’ve compiled a list of college scholarships for 2020 that are available for African American students:
Jackie Robinson Foundation
Jackie Robinson was a famous baseball hall of Famer, but the foundation was founded by his wife, Rachel Robinson, in 1973. It is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to underserved minority high school seniors for higher education. The scholarship funding comes from various sponsors and typically grants eligible students up to $30,000 a year for four years.

UNCF STEM Scholars Program
Also called the United Fund, the United Negro College Fund is an American philanthropic organization that grants scholarships for African American students since 1944. They provide up to $5,000 a year for first-year college students and high school seniors that are taking college-level courses. However, one should take note that they must have at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this grant.

A.C.S. Scholars Program
If you like studying chemistry and other chemistry-related fields, then you are highly qualified for this grant. The A.C.S. Scholars Program awards up to $5,000 per academic year to students majoring in undergraduate chemistry-related disciplines and must pursue careers in chemistry-related fields.

Ron Brown Scholar Program
Ron Brown Scholar Program was established in 1996 in honor of the American politician Ronald Harmon Brown to provide academic scholarships for young African Americans with a record of academic excellence and shows exceptional leadership skills. The program offers $40,000 financial aid for four years of college.

Goldman Sachs M.B.A. Fellowship
For those African American students who aim to pursue a career in the financial services industry, The Goldman Sachs M.B.A. Fellowship can provide financial aid of $30,000 for two years for eligible students. However, to qualify for their scholarships, one must need to pass two 500-word essays and an interview.

American Bus Association (A.B.A.) Diversity Scholarship
If you are pursuing a career in the tourism or travel industry, the American Bus Association provides up to $5,000 of financial aid to qualifying African American students. However, applicants must submit a 500-word essay about the role they hope to play for the future development of the travel and tourism industry.

Diversity Scholarship
This grant is only made available for African American students entering the Adler School of Professional Psychology. The Diversity Scholarship offers $10,000 financial aid to those who’d like to pursue careers in any psychology-related course in the said school.

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Scholarship
The National S.M.A.R.T. Scholarship helps African American students that show interest in studying science, or computer sciences, technology, mathematics, and engineering, or a foreign language. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to become eligible.
