This Baltimore-based tech startup wants to continue to revolutionize the home inspection industry. Using artificial intelligence, they are on a mission to help potential buyers and sellers book and facilitate home inspections.
According to Black Business, tech company AfterrHome operates on a subscription-based model that anticipates issues that may arise during home inspections by offering an AI assistant that provides timely and cost-effective solutions.
The way the startup’s system works is users rely on the AI assistant to recommend inspections based on the neighborhood of the property and the address they supply. From there, AfterrHome provides affordable payment options that take out the stress home inspection costs can bring on.
Compared to traditional home inspection companies, AfterrHome offers a reliable system that allows users to not only book their own inspections, but subscribe to preventative care services as well.
Additionally, AfterrHome is also providing remote live stream inspections so homebuyers can safely attend home inspections to follow along with social distancing rules amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
AfterrHome and its creators are heavily invested in their local community, establishing The Community Giveback Program which uses revenue from the company’s inspection services to offer free lead inspections to people in at-risk communities and impoverished families with children under the age of 10.
“In Baltimore, lead poisoning has become somewhat of a rite of passage,” AfterrHome’s co-founder, Lenora T. Felder shared. “Baltimore is a special city, and the youth of this city deserve to grow up in healthy environments where they can thrive. So we are going to do our part to create environmental justice.”
According to Black Business, the company’s main goal is to revolutionize the common perspective that the home inspection industry is outdated and instead prove that it will eventually transition to be more forward-thinking in the tech space.
“The home inspection industry has not adapted to the era of technology,” said co-founder and CEO, Michael Floyd Jr. to Black Business. “You can look for your dream home and purchase it on an app, but when you get a home inspection, you are looking for a reputable inspector, so you have to conduct an exhaustive search to find one on your own that you can afford. You have no way of knowing if the inspector is reputable, and you have to pay upfront. We are looking to disrupt the industry by implementing a model that provides ease, transparency and options when it comes to the home inspection process.”
