These Black women are whipping up something special!

Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R. are the sisters behind the world’s first oat-milk ice créme shoppe located in New York’s Lower East Side — Whipped – Urban Dessert Lab.

According to a press release, after seeing the struggles of their family and the other 75% of Black people who face living with lactose intolerance, they decided to find a solution through dairy-free ice cream.

Thanks to Blagrove’s background in research, her Ph.D. in metabolism and nutrition, and her own woes that come with having a nut allergy, the sisters were able to create a dairy-free option that makes it difficult to tell the difference between plant-based and dairy cream.

Oate™ was birthed from this creation and this hard scooped ice crème™ is made entirely using oat-milk!

“The goal was to create an indulgent frozen dessert using oat milk that even dairy lovers couldn’t resist,” said Blagrove in a press release. “We have developed an exceptional product that has quickly gained a following and we are truly changing the way people think and feel, about non-dairy ice cream.”

All product formulas are developed in-house to create a flavor and texture that is often missing from frozen plant-based options. Not only are they using high-quality, natural ingredients, but when put up against the competition, they can’t compare thanks to Whipped’s ice crème™ which incorporates less air, resulting in a richer, creamier, and denser texture.

Now available for free shipping across the U.S., Oate™ comes in five different flavors in 1/2 pint sizes. Varieties include Mint Chocolate Cookie, Cinnamon Apple Crisp, Peanut Chocolate Cookie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Classic Chocolate.

Oat-Milk Ice Créme Truffles™ also launched during the pandemic as a bite-sized version of the popular ice créme™ and is available in Double Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, and Peanut Butter Chocolate flavors.
