Two Sisters Just Made History as Owners of the World's First Oat-Milk Ice Créme Shoppe

These Black women are whipping up something special! Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R. are the sisters behind the world’s first oat-milk ice créme shoppe located in New York’s Lower East Side — Whipped – Urban Dessert Lab. According to a press release, after seeing the struggles of their family and the other 75% of Black people who face living with lactose intolerance, they decided to find a solution through dairy-free ice cream. Thanks to Blagrove’s background in research, her Ph.D. in metabolism and nutrition, and her own woes that come with having a nut allergy, the sisters were able to create a dairy-free option that makes it difficult to tell the difference between plant-based and dairy cream. Oate™ was birthed from this creation and this hard scooped ice crème™ is made entirely using oat-milk!
