Foot Locker announced the election of Tristan Walker, founder of Walker&Co. and Bevel, to its Board of Directors, effective February 2, 2020. Walker took to his twitter to express his excitement about his new position.
“Some news! This day is one of the most exciting of my career as it was announced that I was elected to the Foot Locker, Inc. Board of Directors, starting Feb 2, 2020.”
He went on to say, “I’m beyond excited about this opportunity. I LOVE Foot Locker, Inc’s portfolio of brands (Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, Footaction, Champs, Eastbay, and others) and its mission to empower and inspire youth culture. The company and its brands are so iconic and have had such a profound impact in my life. Many thanks to the wonderful board and CEO, Dick Johnson for this opportunity. This is so amazing.”
Walker took Silicon Valley by storm with his success as the head of business development at Foursquare during 2009 -2012 where he landed 300 merchant partnerships with brands like American Express and BravoTV. Since leaving Foursquare Walker has amassed success with his startup Walker and Company, a brand dedicated to making health and beauty simple for people of color. Walker and Company features two beauty brands, Bevel and Form, both of which cater to grooming for men of color and hair care for women of color, respectively. USA Today reported in 2014 that Walker raised $9.3M to fund Walker and Company with rap artist Nas being one of its investors.
The highlight of Walker’s Bevel brand is its Bevel Blade, designed for professional and at-home use to ensure next-level lineups.
Walker is also co-founded Code2040, a nonprofit aimed at breaking down the barriers that prevent Black and Latinx technologists.
Darlene Nicosia, President of the Canada Business Unit of The Coca-Cola Company, joins Walker on Foot Lockers Board of Directors. In a Cision press release Richard A. Johnson, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Foot Locker, Inc congratulated the new Directors.
“We are excited to welcome Darlene and Tristan as new independent directors to our Board of Directors,” said Johnson. “In addition to their impressive accomplishments, they each bring an understanding of how to utilize innovation and technology to drive change and deliver growth. Darlene’s expertise in the global supply chain and Tristan’s work at the intersection of technology and the consumer experience will make them great additions to our Board.”
