JR Smith Is North Carolina A&T's Academic Athlete Of The Year

JR Smith is still achieving milestones off the court. As AfroTech previously reported, the former National Basketball Association (NBA) player embarked on his first semester at North Carolina A&T State University during the spring of 2021. Smith was not only in his academic bag but he returned to his sports bag, too, becoming a walk-on for the Historically Black College and University’s golf team. His transition from the league to student-athlete was successful, to say the least, as he announced he finished his premier semester with a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA). “I can’t even describe the feeling, I ain’t even gonna lie to you,” said Smith in a video reacting to the news about his grades. “A lot of hard work went into that s*** you know… Monday through Friday eight to eleven, sometimes longer, straight schoolwork.
