When Kanye West enters the chat, you must put on your seatbelt because you never really know what direction the conversation will go. In this instance, however, the “College Dropout” rapper put the world on notice that he is cutting ties with corporate America. In an interview with Bloomberg, West details his thought process behind his actions to go solo and be done with big corporate partners.
Kanye West continues to show why he’s truly a genius. As someone who does it all, the rapper’s Stem Player — what he calls the “first Yeezy Tech product” — has brought in $2.2 million in sales in one day thanks to his latest album, reports HYPEBEAST. Per Kanye West, the move to release his music via his Stem Player platform rather than streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, or TIDAL caused him way more monetary gain. “To earn the $2.2 million we made on the first day on the stem player the album would have had to stream 500 million times,” Kanye West shared. “We did more revenue on Stem Player, without the album even being out than we would have done with the album being out on streaming.” Just months following the release of “Donda,” Kanye West revealed that he would release “Donda 2” exclusively via his Stem Player. And, according to the “Jesus Walks” emcee, this was because the percentage that artists receive on streaming platforms is significantly low. “Today artists...
Kanye West continues to be a force across all entities. From “Donda” the album to a school, the Hip-Hop icon and businessman continues to put in work to keep his mother’s legacy alive. This time, TMZ reports that the “Jesus Walks,” emcee filed a trademark for his company to place “Donda” on various tech line products. From the looks of it, West is well on his way to building an empire and will honor his mother along the way. As previously reported by AfroTech, West recently made a move to possibly open a school in hopes of making his stake in the world of education. Now the Chicago-native and father of four has taken a page from Apple’s Steve Jobs and plans to solidify the rights to place “Donda” across electronic products including audio speakers, surround sound systems and tablet computers. He reportedly has plans to feature his mother’s name across wearable computers like protective flip covers for tablet computers, smart glasses, smartwatches and wearable activity trackers. “If...
At last, Kanye West’s “Donda” album has finally arrived. And in less than a day, it’s already managed to break streaming records on platforms like Spotify. According to a report from Chart Data, the billionaire artist’s tenth studio album had one of the biggest first day debuts of all-time on Spotify’s global chart, raking in nearly 100 million streams within 24 hours of releasing. The record-breaking streaming numbers could be largely attributed to West’s extravagant Apple Music listening events and unorthodox methods of promoting the album via fans and social media. While West’s latest Instagram post alleges that his record company, Universal Music Group — parent company of Def Jam Recordings (who the artist is currently signed to) — released his album without his approval, it still managed to have a wildly-successful Sunday morning release. https://www.instagram.com/p/CTK6NChoUIp/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link News of West’s history-making debut arrives just days after his third...
Kanye West’s fans are getting more hands-on with the album rollout process than we’ve ever seen before, giving them a chance to have a say in what the final product will be. According to a report from Complex, fans now have the ability to “customize any song” from West’s “Donda” album through a $200 stem player launched by the artist himself. This new technology gives them the power to “control vocals, drums, bass, and samples” and even “isolate parts, add effects, [and] split any song into stems.” The device — now available for purchase on West’s website — has bluetooth capabilities and an audio jack for speakers, as well as features that allow consumers to both save and share customized mixes from the album. It will reportedly ship out along with the new album, which still doesn’t have a confirmed release date.
If it’s one thing Kanye West is going to do, it’s turn a profit from his brand. After hosting his second listening event for his forthcoming album, the “Donda” rapper reportedly did numbers at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta after pulling in $7 million in revenue from his in-person merchandise, according to Billboard. This is also the same amount that West’s YEEZY x GAP puffer coat reportedly made in one night. More than that, the second global livestream on Apple Music generated more than 5.4 million views, topping his recent record-breaking number of 3.3 million total viewers from the previous album event. West’s streaming numbers are so impressive, they’ve managed to rival that of Twitch — amounting to more than double of the streaming platform’s current livestream record — as well as the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards, which had an audience of over 6.1 million people across the U.S. tune in last year. Kanye West did more than just preview his upcoming album at his public listening event, he broke a record for Apple Music too. According to a report from TMZ, the billionaire rap artist not only sold out the Mercedes Benz Arena in Atlanta for his public “DONDA” listening party last Thursday (July 22), he also broke the Apple Music Global Livestream record with 3.3 million total viewers for the live in-person event. The outlet reports that this is an accomplishment no other artist on the platform has come near, far surpassing the 1.8 million viewers who tuned into the Verzuz battle between Jeezy and Gucci Mane on Apple Music late last year. The “DONDA” event was a one-time only occurrence that is not currently available to replay on Apple Music, so the 3.3 million viewers garnered solely happened off Thursday’s event alone. Sources also tell TMZ that upon the release of West’s album — which is set to supposedly drop on Aug. 6 — the listening event will then be posted for fans to...
