Behind every great man is an even greater woman, and Shante Broadus — wife of rapper Snoop Dogg — is the perfect example of that.

She first met her now-husband in high school, back when he was known as Cordozar Calvin Broadus and (allegedly) selling dimebags of weed to the likes of Cameron Diaz. She stuck by him through thick and thin, and eventually became his first-ever manager. When Snoop’s career took off, she turned her bag around and flipped it into her own production company called Boss Lady Entertainment.

But things weren’t always easy for the Hip-Hop power couple. In 2004, the couple had to weather the biggest storm of their lives when they filed for divorce.

“A lot of times you get cloudy,” Snoop explained to E! News, at the time. “This music industry is a mother, man, and it’ll take your vision and blur it.”

Eventually, however, he realized that Shante Broadus was the definition of a rider, and he worked overtime to finally win her back.

“I was trying to get a divorce, but I went back home and I fell back in love with my wife and kids,” he said. “I understand that I need my wife and my kids in my life—so I threw the papers away. I don’t want to get a divorce. So if you hear about a divorce, it’ll be my wife divorcing me. It won’t be me divorcing her…And I made a mistake, so I’m trying to get back right.”

But Shante Broadus needs to be seen as more than just the wife of Snoop Dogg. She’s a mother, wife, grandmother, and entrepreneur. And she deserves to have some respect put on her name.

Let’s take a look at what we know about this truly aspirational woman!

I had to do all of that kind of [expletive], you know what I’m saying, to win her over,” he said to VladTV.

They eventually got married in June of 1997, but thanks in no small part to Snoop’s philandering (more on that in a minute), the couple put in for a divorce in 2004. But they eventually reconciled and renewed their vows in 2007.

“It was up to me to try to put it back together,” he admitted to Larry King. “It’s hard now to this day. It’s still hard because there’s a lot of, you know—there’s a lot of roller coaster to a relationship.”

7. Why Shante Broadus Is Such A Boss Lady

Shante Broadus is proof that it’s not where you came from that matters — it’s where you’re going, and what you do with what you’ve been given.

Most of all, she’s more than just Snoop Dogg’s wife — she’s a mother, grandmother, and consummate professional, and that alone makes her story both aspirational and inspirational.
