Shaquille O’Neal may return to his roots as he hopes to become the owner of the NBA’s Orlando Magic.
O'Neal Wants To Purchase The Franchise From DeVos Family
During The Big Podcast with Shaq, the entrepreneur and Hall Famer revealed he wants first dibs when the DeVos family is ready to sell.
The family has held the title as the owners of the Orlando Magic team since 1991, and while Shaq’s showing interest, it does not appear they have any intentions of selling the franchise at the moment — even after the passing of Richard DeVos in 2018.
“Listen, we still run that franchise [Magic]. If they wanna sell it to us — DeVos family — we’re ready to go right now,” O’Neal said on The Big Podcast. “This message goes out to the DeVos family — if you’re ready to sell Orlando Magic — sell it to somebody who’s gonna take it to the next level, that’s us.”
Former Teammate Dennis Scott
O’Neal also divulged operational plans, revealing he would pursue the business venture alongside former teammate Dennis Scott. He mentioned both he and his former teammate have the resources to successfully pool off their request if the opportunity presents itself. O’Neal also stated that he would want Scott to be the General Manager as he often called the shots behind the scenes for potential onboarding players during their time together from 1992 to 1996. Strategically placing the right people around Scott would be O’Neal’s focus to ensure the Orlando Magic team will be in the best position to win.
