After helping to lead Nike to greater heights, Sarah Mensah is taking on a new role.

According to Boardroom, Mensah is the new president of the Jordan Brand.

The move comes almost two years after she made history as the first Black woman to spearhead Nike’s North American business.

Her New Role

Now, she can add becoming the first woman to serve as the president of Michael Jordan’s imprint within the company.

“Working in the Jordan Brand, I had the opportunity to sit at the table with Michael Jordan himself,” Mensah said during an interview with Footwear News, according to the outlet. “I was able to learn and draft off of his example. I understood that all success requires us to stretch and push beyond our comfort zones. The intensity and inspiration of being challenged to achieve something more by the GOAT himself stays with me to this day.”

Previous Work With The Jordan Brand

No stranger to working alongside the Jordan Brand, as senior director of strategic planning, Mensah previously helped to orchestrate a 10-year plan for the company “that currently sees signature stars in ascending spaces and a footprint that covers everything from college sports to Italian shopping.”

Throughout her tenure in the company, she has also served as both vice president and general manager of Nike’s North American business.

With Mensah’s latest appointment, former President Craig Williams will transition into the role of president of geographies and marketplace at Nike Inc.

Prior to working in the footwear industry, Mensah was the vice president and COO of the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers. During her tenure, 2009 to 2012, there was a 105% increase in the team’s revenue.

Continued Success

As previously reported by AfroTech, sales for the legendary brand reached $5.1 billion in annual revenue in 2022 and have no plans of letting up anytime soon.

While the brand’s most successful product is the beloved Air Jordan 1, introduced to the world in 1985, today it is worthy to note that the collection includes clothing, women’s shoes, and more.
