Young female learners will be encouraged to dream big because of a newly formed partnership between Frito-Lay Variety Packs, science-fiction star Sonequa Martin-Green, and STEM Next’s Million Girls Moonshot.
According to a press release, the shared commitment will make STEM learning opportunities accessible to young girls through the Back-to-School Blast Off program. Martin-Green hopes her presence will encourage the next generation to evolve their interests in STEM.
“Representation matters and sometimes, all it takes to inspire us to achieve something is to see someone we can relate to doing it first,” said Martin-Green, according to a press release. “I’m honored for the opportunity to join Frito-Lay Variety Packs in their mission to inspire talented young girls everywhere to develop their passions for STEM and pursue their dreams.”
A STEM Cause
Now, families can turn to FritoLayVarietyPacks.com/BlastOff, to access activities with household items spearheaded by NASA Scientists.
There will also be an incentive for families to participate. For those who capture an image of their family’s Back-to-School Blast Off activity using the hashtags, #SpaceForHer and #Entry on Instagram or Twitter, a $20 donation will go to Million Girls Moonshot. The initiative encourages one million girls to participate in STEM-related activities through after-school and summer programs by 2025.
“Frito-Lay Variety Packs has always been an important staple of the back-to-school season, and we’re thrilled to celebrate young girls in STEM alongside Sonequa Martin-Green and Million Girls Moonshot,” said Danielle O’Keefe, senior director of brand marketing for Frito-Lay Variety Packs, according to a press release. “While we aspire to deliver joy through our snacks, we also seek to use our position to do more. This year we want to make our impact even more meaningful as we continue to support the dreams of young girls everywhere.”
