Metro Boomin is in for a major payday.
According to Billboard, the famed producer sold a portion of his music catalog to Shamrock Capital and will be cashing in nearly $70 million.
His impressive catalog of work features hit songs such as “Bad and Boujee” by Migos, “Mask Off” by Future, “Congratulations” by Post Malone, “Bank Account” by 21 Savage, “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1” by Kanye West, “Jumpman” by Drake and Future, “Heartless” by The Weeknd, “Waves” by Kanye West, and “Child’s Play” by Drake, among others.
Metro Boomin’s bangers have, to no surprise, performed well on the charts. Billboard also mentions he has scored 99 entries on the Hot 100 chart as a producer, which includes two No. 1s and 10 Top 10s.
As an artist, he has landed 46 entries on the Hot 100 chart and earned the No. 1 spot on the Rap Producers chart for 18 weeks, as well as secured the No. 1 spot on the 100 Producers and Hot 100 Songwriters charts for three weeks, the outlet reports.
Metro Boomin now joins other artists in hip-hop who have decided to sell their music catalogs.
As AfroTech previously told you, in January, Variety reported that Dr. Dre is set to sell a portion of his music income streams and additional assets in a deal worth up to $250 million.
In addition, Future secured an eight-figure deal when he sold his publishing catalog to Influence Media Partners. The catalog included 612 titles from 2004 to 2020. The deal was worth an estimated $65 million to $75 million.
“I put everything into my music, and I wanted to make sure these were in good hands as I thought about the next chapter of these songs,” Future said in a press release. “I’m proud to partner up with Rene and the team at Influence Media and send a signal that this music has timeless value. My music is my art, and these songs represent some of the most precious artwork of my career.”
