Making Healthcare More Accessible
Following the pandemic, Antetokounmpo wanted to do more for those in need, including making healthcare more accessible.
As he seems to be keeping his word, Antidote Health has revealed that Antetokounmpo invested $1 million into the company, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The commitment will amplify the company’s promise for all Americans to receive top-of-the-line healthcare at an affordable price point “regardless of race, location, or circumstance.”
“Not everybody has access,” Antetokounmpo told Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I’m fortunate to be able to play in the NBA when I was 18 and now I’m 27. I can go to the doctor. I can send my kid to the doctor. I’m able to have access. But there’s so many millions of people in the U.S. and all over the world, but more in the U.S., that do not have that luxury like us. Are we going to turn a blind eye to that? Or are we going to do something about it? This is me doing something about it.”
He continued: “I’m not a health expert but I believe in people. No matter if you’re rich or poor, people are important, and at the end of the day what are we going to do about it? This is me doing something about it.”
Antidote Health
Antidote Health launched in 2021 and has been working to secure funding to expand its services globally.
Previously, the company raised $22 million in a Series A funding round led by investors iAngels, Group 11, and Flint Capital.
The investment supported research and experimental development activity such as “AI screening and clinical decision support system capabilities,” according to the press release.
As it looks to the future, the company is now looking to provide uninsured and underinsured people with opportunities to reach doctors through virtual chatbots and video calls.
