DaBaby’s team has responded to claims that the North Carolina native’s upcoming New Orleans show was canceled due to low ticket sales.
The 30-year-old’s booking agent says that the Sept. 2 show at the Smoothie King Center was scrapped due to a lack of promotion on the city’s end, not low ticket sales.
What Da Baby's Team Says Really Happened
“DaBaby’s New Orleans show was pulled by the artist’s team due to the promoter being in breach of contract,” said Andrew Leiber.
Furthermore, he reveals that the rapper has plans to still grace his New Orleans fans with his presence.
“Da Baby will be back in New Orleans very soon to make it up to his fans,” Leiber continued.
A promoter for the show, Greg Pulver, claims that the event was postponed due to “business reasons” despite the Ticketmaster website’s claims that it was canceled.
Easy Money
Either way, the show may have been light work for the entertainer who claimed earlier this summer that club appearances bring in as much as $200,000.
“Sometimes I get $200k,” said DaBaby during an appearance on the Full Send podcast. “I always overplay it though… If they’re giving you that type of bag that means it’s love. It means you’ve got that type of draw in that club.”
It Costs To Be The Boss
As previously reported by AfroTech, touring makes up a bulk of the income that entertainers like Da Baby draw in on a yearly basis.
A report from The Savage Post revealed — that in 2020 — Gunna landed $60,000 for an appearance at Studio 23, a nightclub located in Miami Beach, FL. Lil Wayne’s booking fee in 2015 was $110,000 and had to come equipped with perks from the club, including two security guards.
Club Culture In the Midst of The Pandemic
In a 2021 report shared by The Guardian, roughly 86,000 jobs in the “night-time cultural economy” were lost including positions at nightclubs and theatres.
COVID-19 came through and changed the way the world interacts forever. Therefore, it’s no telling how much artists are requesting to hit the club to interact with fans these days.
