Chris Paul means business when it comes to supporting companies that help in strengthening the Black community — just take a look at his investment portfolio.
In August 2021, the NBA star invested in the plant-based protein shake and smoothie company Koia to create access to healthier eating for the underserved, as previously reported by AfroTech. In the same month, Paul participated in a $3 million seed round for Misha’s Kind Foods, a Black-owned vegan cheese brand. Now, he has added another Black-owned brand to his investments.
Paul has joined La Fête Wine Company as an equity partner, according to a press release. Being a businessman that’s all about inclusivity, he and the brand’s missions perfectly align.
“Not only is Chris an incredible athlete and businessman, but he’s also a wine enthusiast who is vocal and passionate about representation & inclusivity in the wine industry,” said Donae Burston, Founder & CEO of La Fête Wine Company. “He is a natural fit for our team, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
The Partnership
What also sparked the partnership was Paul already being a longtime supporter of La Fête.
“I’m thrilled to partner with La Fête Wine Company and work with them to continue to grow the business and fulfill their brand vision,” said Paul in a statement. “I fully support their efforts in creating a better and more equitable society by helping underserved youth, advancing racial justice, and making wine more inclusive.”
La Fête Wine Company
Launched in 2019, La Fête has gone on to become an award-winning rosé that is sold in over 40 markets across the United States and available online for nationwide shipping, according to the press release.
AfroTech previously shared that the wine company also broke ground last year after becoming the first company to snag funding from Constellation Brands.
Black Celebs Venturing Into The Wine Industry
Overall, the wine industry has seen an influx of Black celebrities such as Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, and Dwyane Wade releasing their own brands, but a brand like La Fête snagging Chris Paul as an equity partner is a big win for Black-owned businesses.
