Nipsey Hussle’s brother, Blacc Sam, is ensuring that the late rapper’s legacy continues through his children.
The Marathon
In 2017, Hussle launched his famous brick-and-mortar, The Marathon Clothing store on the corner of Crenshaw and Slauson. The inspiration behind the name of the edifice was the Los Angeles native’s belief that life is a marathon, not a race.
Now, Blacc Sam, whose given name is Sam Asghedom, explains how he is continuing the mentality through Hussle’s children, by securing ownership for them at an early age.
Continuing Hussle's Legacy
“When I say we own it, it’s in Hussle’s kids’ names and their trust funds so they know when they get older, this is something that their father worked for and that they own,” Sam told Earn Your Leisure podcast hosts Troy Millings and Rashad Bilal during a recent appearance.
Since his tragic passing in 2019, Hussle’s family has continued to work to keep his legacy alive, opening a second location in the summer of 2022. The Marathon Collective opened its doors on June 18, 2022, and serves as a premiere THC and CBD retail dispensary in the L.A. community.
Lessons Learned From Hussle
“Having brick-and-mortar reinforces what Hussle taught us,” Blacc Sam said. “Through the ups and downs of whatever with business or brands, whether it’s booming online or slows down, just having that brick-and-mortar, and being able to pass it down through the family, to me, that’s the importance of us actually owning this property.”
Furthermore, with Hussle’s children owning real estate at such an early age, Blacc Sam notes that they will have the opportunity to see the value of the property go up, which he says they’ve already seen.
“The property has doubled already since we got it,” Blacc Sam said.
The Marathon Continues
As previously reported by AfroTech, Hussle’s legacy will live on in other ways too.
A Nipsey Hussle course will be offered at Loyola Marymount University, where the late rapper once served as an adjunct professor, in the spring of 2023.
