If you missed AfroTech Conference 2022, make it the last one missed because we had a time in Austin, TX.
From Nov. 14-17, 2022, an estimated 25,000 people gathered for AfroTech Conference after meeting virtually in AfroTech World for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conference sessions, the link-ups, the fashion, the music, and most of all — the connections — contributed to a one-of-one experience for Black techies.
AfroTech Conference Sessions Hit Different
Grow. Stretch. Cultivate. If three words could sum up AfroTech Conference 2022 sessions, those are the ones that come top of mind.
From the holistic insight on the Main Stage to the educational gems at the Learning Lab and down to the innovative wisdom shared on the Product & Engineering, Executive, and Web3 stages — there were consistent moments filled with “oohs and ahhs” as people took in everything they heard.
Conference attendees could tap into sessions with serial entrepreneurs like Mark Cuban and Haywood Perry, who shared the inside game of owning a business.
Additional stages allowed participants to have a more intimate experience during “Ask Me Anything” sessions with business savants like Ryan Wilson of The Gathering Spot and tech founder and media personality Tanya Sam.
With such an extensive offering, each person could tap into knowledge across a range of intersecting industry sectors in panels. There was one sponsored by Amazon that explored the intersection of entertainment and tech in addition to others that included exploring product design and scale with Blavity, Inc. COO Jeff Nelson — among others.
Every corporate conference offers an array of educational opportunities for people to tap into, but there is no experience like the range, diversity, and overall vibes of AfroTech sessions.
The Link-Ups Were Endless
After a day’s work of attending panels, networking with new faces and exploring the Expo Hall, the moves after were non-stop. During this year’s conference, there was never a dull moment.
To kick things off, there was the Corporate Mixer. The start of the event was a beautiful sight of people connecting in a more intimate setting. After the calm, the mixer turned into a turn-up at the Hilton, thanks to the DJ and open bar.

Another prime example of good times was right around the corner from the Austin Convention Center at the Google Kickback, where people networked over free drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a live DJ. Plus, not to mention, there were multiple photo activations to flick it up.
When it comes to additional partnered AfroTech events, the more than honorable mentions include the RNB Experience, Afrolituation, the Blind 6 Spades Party, and Broccoli City’s CoCo Butter event. What’s more, to close the massive event out, Wale headlined AfroTech’s official day party.
Music To Our Ears
What other technology conference will lace you with conversations from some of the most notable names in tech and the dopest musical performances from some of music’s best acts?
AfroTech has never shied away from the marriage between the tech and music industries, and when assembling for the first time in person after nearly two years, the sentiment remained the same.
Attendees were not only left with knowledge from pioneers and innovators in the game like Zaytoven, but they also had the opportunity to witness a conversation between Amazon Music’s Tim Hinshaw and Warner Chappell’s Wallace Joseph about The Business of Hip Hop. Plus, there were also performances by BIA, Bas, and more.
Per usual, AfroTech is changing the landscape of what it means to be immersed in the field of technology, one conference at a time.
Looks For Days
In the true essence of our culture, the AfroTech Conference 2022 came equipped with folks dripping in business attire!
After COVID-19 changed the way we all work, dozens of people perfected the art of “comfy cute.” It was seen all up and through Austin throughout the course of the conference. And, of course, folks were pairing their best business casual attire with some of the hottest sneaker styles in the game.
