Frank Ocean is, officially, in the jewelry business.
In a press release announcement, it was revealed that the former member of Odd Future has launched Homer, which is being touted as an “independent American luxury company” by its official press release.
And the first capsule is quite extensive, with pieces including diamond-encrusted bracelets, cartoon-colored enamel pendants, patterned silk scarves, and gold rings sculpted into the word “OK.”
“The first Homer collection comprises fine and high jewelry pieces, plus printed silk scarves. The pieces are handcrafted using 18K gold, recycled sterling silver, hand-painted enamel, and American lab-grown diamonds,” reads the press release, which adds that the products are designed by the Homer team in New York City before sending the designs off to Italy for manufacture.
According to the Homer team, the inspiration for the designs comes from childhood obsessions and heritage as a fantasy.
As of right now, the only place to buy the jewelry is at the Homer store, located at 70-74 Bowery, New York, NY. Appointments can be made on the official Homer website, and the store will officially open on Aug. 9, 2021.
Meanwhile, according to GQ, Frank Ocean has been working on the collection for nearly three years. Homer is a brand that attempts to “carve history in stone,” and makes reference to Home Record, an LLC Ocean registered several years ago, long before the jewelry store and collection was anything more than an idea.
And if you’re hoping for the jewelry line to be a pre-promotion of sorts for a new Frank Ocean album in 2021, Vulture is here to disabuse you of the notion (sadly).
“Ocean’s publicist told Vulture that the project [which many fans believed was a new album] is an album by the rapper 454,” reported the outlet. It also doesn’t look like he’ll be releasing any new music soon — although given how much money rappers make outside of the music industry, it’s not hard to understand why.
