Joe Biden Administration Says It Has Managed To Cancel $15B In Student Loan Debt

Joe wants folks to know that he’s out here doing it! According to Complex, the Joe Biden administration has managed to cancel a total of $15 billion in student loan debt since taking office in 2021. A press release from the Department of Education also confirmed that more than 675,000 borrowers have come out on the winning end of his student loan forgiveness program. The news comes on the heels of President Biden’s move to extend the pause on student loan debt payments until May of this year. “Given these considerations, today my Administration is extending the pause on federal student loan repayments for an additional 90 days – through May 1. 2022 – as we manage the ongoing pandemic and further strengthen our economic recovery, ” he wrote. “Meanwhile, the Department of Education will continue working with borrowers to ensure they have the support they need to transition smoothly back into repayment and advance economic stability for their own households and for our nation.”

Banks Throw A Fit As Black Farmers Are Approved For The $4B Relief Plan That They Deserve

Justice for Black farmers! Following the $4 billion debt relief for Black farmers, The New York Times reports that banks are fighting back noting that quick repayments will cut into profits. The institutions are complaining that the government’s initiative to pay off the loans of those Black farmers who have faced decades of financial discrimination will not only hurt investors but cut into the bank’s profits. In March, Congress passed a $1.9 trillion stimulus package which includes the debt relief for the Black farmers and is intended to make things right for years of discrimination faced by all nonwhite farmers. Today, no money still has been received by those farmers. Aside from the drama with the banks, white farmers sued the U.S.D.A over the initiative claiming that they are victims of reverse discrimination. Delaware State University Cancels Over $700K In Student Debt For Recent Graduates

For recent Delaware State University (DSU) graduates, student debt will be less of a burden. According to the university , they will cancel up to $730,655 in student debt for recent graduates that have faced financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. The historically Black university has used its stimulus funds from President Biden’s American Rescue plan to help its students by canceling their debt. Forbes reports that The Education Department updated guidance in March to allow institutions to use the money for different needs which includes canceling some student debt. “Too many graduates across the country will leave their schools burdened by debt, making it difficult for them to rent an apartment, cover moving costs, or otherwise prepare for their new careers or graduate school,” said Antonio Boyle, a vice president for the university. President Joe Biden has nominated a new chief administrator to step in for the Environmental Protection Agency. CNN reports that Michael Regan has been picked through a bipartisan confirmation vote of 66 to 34 for the role that will take aggressive action toward tackling America’s climate crisis.
