Black-Owned Bird Pizzeria In Charlotte, NC, Makes New York Times List Of Best Pizzas In The US As It Gears Up For Dine-In Expansion

A love for pizza has leveled up the lives of these Black business owners. Black-owned Bird Pizzeria was featured in the New York Times’ list of best pizza shops nationwide. The roundup, which included 22 restaurants, highlighted businesses across the U.S. The pizzeria, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been in business since December 2021, Black Enterprise reports. Husband-and-wife duo Kerrel and Nkem Thompson launched Bird Pizzeria as a pop-up restaurant before entering the takeout space. These Childhood Friends Opened A Pizzeria To Help Ease Employment Hardships For Former Inmates

A Philadelphia-based pizza shop is out here changing lives. According to ABC News, two childhood friends are aiming to reduce the city’s recidivism rates through their pizza shop by exclusively hiring formerly incarcerated men and women. Cornbread Soul Food Restaurant Announces $5M Venture Capital Investment

Cornbread, a farm-to-table soul food restaurant based in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, has announced that they’ve received $5M in a venture capital investment. According to New Jersey Business, the financing was led by two Black-owned venture capital firms — New Voices Fund and Trident — to help the business grow. The chain of stores — which already has locations in Maplewood, Newark, and West Mifflin, PA — is looking to expand its stores nationwide. Owned by Adenah Bayoh and Zadie B.
