Google has announced another ambitious effort that is betting it all on America’s post-pandemic office spaces. As the U.S. looks to begin its road to recovery post-pandemic, Google has shared that it wishes to help lead those recovery efforts by offering a $7 billion investment plan that aims to back office spaces and data centers across the country as well as generate 10,000 new full-time jobs at the company, a blog post reports. This multi-billion dollar plan also includes investing in communities that are new to Google and expanding in others across 19 U.S. states, most notably its California headquarters which will receive a over $1 billion in investments. “Coming together in person to collaborate and build community is core to Google’s culture, and it will be an important part of our future. Black Girls Code aims to increase the number of women of color in the digital space by empowering girls of color ages 7 to 17 to become innovators in STEM fields, leaders in their communities and builders of their own futures through exposure to computer science and technology. And now Black Girls Code will be able to carry out that mission in Google’s New York offices according to an announcement that the organization is teaming up with designer Kurani to turn the offices into a tech innovation lab for girls . Staff members from Black Girls Code will run student workshops, hack-a-thons, panels and family events in the space. Construction has already started according to a statement from Kurani , and girls can begin to enjoy the hands-on environment this fall.
