Mark Cuban Predicts NBA Players Will Land Billion-Dollar Contracts And Outearn Team Owners — 'There Is No League Without Them'

Mark Cuban believes it’s only a matter of time before an NBA player signs a $1 billion contract. The Dallas Mavericks’ minority owner shared his thoughts during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast. When Sharpe asked if he thinks the world will ever see such a monumental deal, Cuban responded, “Yeah, but that presumes that TV keeps on going up the way it is. But, you’re going to see a hundred million dollars a year here shortly. Because if the TV contract has 10% increases in the cap, [which is] the way the CBA works. You saw Steph [Curry] had 62 million for one year… and it’s going to go crazier.”   The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) defines the employment guidelines and agreements for all professional basketball players in the National Basketball Association, per its website . It also outlines the rights and responsibilities of the NBA Clubs, the NBA, and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). Sharpe’s question was prompted by 25-year-old...

How Angel Reese Took Over The WNBA With A Net Worth Of Nearly $2 Million

If you’ve been keeping up with the news in basketball lately, you’re likely familiar with WNBA player Angel Reese. The star Chicago Sky player recently made headlines for being the first ever woman in professional basketball to record a double-double in ten consecutive games during a single season. Despite her excellent performance on the court, Reese has been the subject of much ire. The backlash stems from Reese’s brave ability to speak out against the massive wage gap between WNBA players and their male counterparts. According to Distractify , Angel Reese currently has a net worth of just under $2 million. While this is certainly an impressive figure, particularly for a woman of only 22 years of age, it pales in comparison to the finances of most male NBA players . During a recent post-game interview, Reese spoke on her success in her chosen field. Per Sports Illustrated , she explained, “I’m a dog. You can’t teach that. I’m gonna go out and do whatever it takes to win every...

VP Of Marketing Sunni Hickman Talks Progress & The History Of Women In The Harlem Globetrotters

You may think that the Harlem Globetrotters are a “joke” team — a team that turns the sport of basketball into a Broadway show, with funny spins and clownish faces and a treat for young children who may be too small to experience the full fury of an NBA game. But you could not be more wrong. In fact, if players like LeBron James, the late Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan can command millions — and billions — of dollars in salaries and endorsements, it’s because the Harlem Globetrotters laid the groundwork to make it so. In 1926, basketball — like the rest of the United States — was segregated, and Black players were not allowed to join the NBA. From that terrible time in American history, though, came basketball teams like the Black Fives and what was then known as the Savoy Big Five. Born on the South Side of Chicago, Tommy Brookins — according to WTTW — led a series of players to walk off from the Savoy Big Five in the midst of a dispute in 1928. They then formed a team of their...

NBA legend J.R. Smith is ready for NIL deals. According to ESPN, Smith — a freshman golfer and retired NBA guard — has just signed with Excel Sports for NIL (name, image, likeness) representation. The news was announced by his agent, Lance Young. But what’s interesting is, this new deal is specifically for his burgeoning golf career. “Smith, 36, is beginning his second semester for the Aggies, and his emergence as perhaps the most well-known Division I golfer has inspired significant endorsement possibilities that could earn him well into the six figures under the NCAA’s new name, image and likeness legislation,” reports the outlet. The outlet also confirms that J.R. Smith made more than $90 million in his career in the NBA, and retired with titles with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2016) and the Los Angeles Lakers (2020) and earned a Sixth Man of the Year Award with the New York Knicks in 2013. But he’s hoping that his career in golf will serve as a bridge for more underrepresented...

Reebok's 'Courting Greatness' Campaign Uses AR Technology To Empower Users With The Ability To Play Anywhere

Technology continues to change the world of sports as we know it, and Reebok recognizes that. For years, access to sports facilities has not been the norm for children in underserved areas often pushing them to reinvent the wheel when it comes to playing some of their favorite games. Now, Reebok is equipping those same communities with the resources that they need to play big thanks to augmented reality (AR) technology tools. Courting Greatness is a FW21 basketball campaign that was launched by the company in late July that uses technology to provide a real-world environment of playable basketball spaces where they may not exist. Photo courtesy of Reebok “Technology is undeniably just part of the fabric of our culture now,” said Inga Stenta, Head of U.S. Marketing for Reebok in an exclusive interview with AfroTech. “As you see things continuing to evolve and move, it is becoming more and more connected to the sports space. What we are really trying to do in this situation is...
