Stephen Curry doesn’t miss — not even from the Metaverse!

Following his latest victory of breaking the all-time NBA three-point record during the Golden State Warriors game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Curry launched his very own non-fungible token (NFT) collection, which sold out in less than five minutes.

Within the first hour, the drop raised $2.1 million and all of the profits will go directly to charity including his very own foundation alongside his wife Ayesha Curry, Eat. Learn. Play.

“We’re incredibly proud of Stephen for this amazing achievement,” said Chris Helfrich, CEO and President of Eat. Learn. Play., in an official press release shared with AfroTech. “We’re honored that these commemorative moments of Stephen’s brilliant career will benefit Eat. Learn. Play., where the funds raised will go directly to support our foundation’s work in improving the lives of children in underserved communities in the Bay Area and beyond.”

The Collection

Only 2,974 NFTs were released to honor Curry’s record-breaking number. Each NFT will also showcase the specific three-pointer that the point guard has made throughout his entire career and will include the date and the game that it happened in.

Artwork will be made up of game moments like birthday and holiday games, triple-double night, nine-plus three-pointer games, and more. The drawings were created by artist Andrea McDonald, a recent Mississippi College graduate and two-sport student-athlete who is also aspiring to become a corporate pilot license.

Disney’s first Black animator, Floyd Norman also helped develop the designs for the collection. He created two six-frame storyboards, one of which highlights Curry’s overtime, game-winning shot during the Feb. 27, 2016 game against Oklahoma City. The shot was a 38-foot three-pointer.

Another storyboard features the NBA superstar’s shot-clock three-point win against Cleveland during the 2018 NBA Finals.

Giving Back Through NFTs

For everyone who purchases the minted 2,974 NFT, another NFT will be gifted for free to the consumer, now that the collection has sold out.

All proceeds will directly benefit the underserved in the Oakland community in the fight to end childhood hunger, ensuring that students have access to quality education and providing safe places for children to play and be active.

Curry will also gift 200 NFTs to everyone who has helped to shape him into the person that he is today including his school teachers, neighborhood friends, mentors, previous coaches, and more. All assets will be pre-minted, while others were randomized at purchase.

All NFT holders will also receive the ultimate surprise from Curry with gifts and experiences that could be made up of autographed memorabilia, tickets to games, early access to Curry Brand limited-edition items, and more.
