Stephen Curry is building on his momentum in the bourbon space.
As AFROTECH™ previously reported, the Golden State Warriors athlete launched Gentleman’s Cut Game Changer, a straight bourbon distilled for at least five years, in 2023. Curry wrote in an Instagram post that celebratory nights, being surrounded by good company, or unpredictable evenings are best enjoyed with the whiskey in his hand.
“I’m proud to have helped carefully craft a new signature Kentucky Straight Bourbon,” Curry expressed at the time.
As of August 2025, Curry is leveling up his stake in the sector. The Mercury News reports that Curry will open a Bourbon Steak restaurant as well as a reservations-only bar called Eighth Rule and expects to employ 150 people. Curry is launching the San Francisco venture at the Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square alongside notable Chef Michael Mina, who operates 11 other Bourbon Steak locations nationwide, according to SFGate. For the Mina, this would mark a return. He previously opened a restaurant at the location, but it closed in 2016, the San Francisco Chronicle stated. He views the venture with Curry as a “big opportunity.”
“Opening alongside Stephen is the icing on the cake,” Mina said in a news release, according to SFGate. “We believe in San Francisco, and we are committed to continuing to provide spaces where people can come and eat, drink, celebrate, and feel welcome in one of the best cities in the world.”
Curry noted, per the outlet: “Creating my own bourbon brand paired with my friendship with Michael is like a master class in hospitality. I’ve always dreamt of creating my own little haven to bring people together, and now we have the perfect location. I cannot wait for people to come and see what we have in store.”
As for what bar goers should expect, the establishment will seat 40, feature a bourbon lounge, and close at 2 a.m. The restaurant menu will feature crab cakes with red curry coconut sauce, shrimp and lobster cocktail, caviar, tomahawk steak, lobster pot pie, fish and more, per the San Francisco Chronicle. It will also include beignets or chocolate fondue for those with a sweet tooth.
“San Francisco is seeing real momentum, and the opening … will contribute to our downtown comeback and add to our city’s vibrant food scene,” San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie pointed out, according to The Mercury News.
