The investor roster behind Tiger Woods’ sports entertainment venture has become packed with even more star power.
On March 21, Shaquille O’Neal, Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s 35V, and Dwyane Wade joined TMRW Sports, according to a blog post.
“The broadening appeal of what we are building with TMRW Sports continues to gain momentum as we welcome more investors with Shaq, Kevin and Dwyane to our team,” said Mike McCarley, founder and CEO of TMRW Sports, according to the blog post. “As champions, they understand what it takes to build a great team. And I welcome their leadership, insight, and enthusiasm for what we’re developing as we reimagine sports through the lens of a new generation of connected fans. Plus, I can’t wait for the company pickup games.”
The trio is now alongside the likes of Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Andre Iguodala, and Jayson Tatum.
The blog post also notes that TMRW Sports had an initial investment round in November 2022, which was co-led by Connect Ventures and 25madison Ventures.
Back in August 2022, it was announced that Woods teamed up with McCarley and Rory McIlroy to launch TMRW Sports. As previously reported by AfroTech, the mission was “to build technology-focused projects with a progressive approach to sports, entertainment and media.”
“As a big sports fan myself, I’m excited about blending golf with technology and team elements common in other sports,” Tiger Woods said in a statement at the time. “We all know what it’s like to be in a football stadium or a basketball arena where you can watch every play, every minute of action unfold right in front of you. It’s something that inherently isn’t possible in traditional golf.”
What’s more, TMRW Sports will feature “TGL” — a tech-infused golf league. The league will include 18 players, who will compete in a series of 18-hole matches. For two hours, fans can expect to watch three-man team competitions in a stadium.
TGL is set to kick off in early 2024.
